how to tell raw material output?
How can you know in-game how many factories a single raw material building can support?

For example 1 clay pit can support 2 brick factories. How do you know this? Is there a number shown in-game that tells you this?

In your example: clay pits take 30 seconds, brick factories one minute for 1t of output. That's how you calculate how many of each you need. Later in game, when items boost industries it's often not that easy to calculate, but that's where the production screen of the statistics menu comes into play. Ctrl Q is your best friend in this game.

Just look at the tooltips in the build menu. They tell you how long a building needs to finish a production cycle. From there, it's just a matter of comparing the timings and doing some simple maths.

thanks, that makes more sense now.

question: so for grain field it's 1 min. but flour mill is 30 seconds. so does that mean it takes 2 grain fields for 1 flower mill? (basically the opposite of the clay pit?)

Not really needed anymore thanks to the statistics screen.
