haha, nice come back
It did use to be that way, but now having 'integrated' a fan-made mod launcher mod into the game neither the mod launcher nor the mods (that had been previously installed manually before the mod launcher had been integrated and did work the last time I played) are working. And quite frankly I can't be arsed spending any more time on it. Ubisoft screwed it up, ubisoft can fix it.
So yeah, easy to install manually, but still don't work, so answer me that.
The following sites is very good for manual downloads:
https://mod.io/g/anno-1800
https://www.nexusmods.com/anno1800
How to use mods:
1. In your Anno 1800 steam game folder make a new folder named "mods".
2. Put both mods from mod.io and nexus into this "mods" folder.
3. After downloaded a mod, inside the zip file there is a folder with another folder inside named "data" and usually a file named "modinfo.json", Drag or drop the folder with a "data" folder/modinfo.json file inside into "mods" folder and that's all.
3. (optional) For more control, error check and easy editing of some mods download iModYourAnno mod manager from https://github.com/anno-mods/iModYourAnno.
Important: Don't subscribe to mods it can end up breaking your save game.
Also recommend checking out this pack and mod makers:
https://anno-mods.github.io/Spice-it-Up/
https://mod.io/g/anno-1800/u/ac3s
https://mod.io/g/anno-1800/u/serp66
https://mod.io/g/anno-1800/u/kurila
https://mod.io/g/anno-1800/u/taubenangriff
Thank you for that, but none of the mods I have downloaded have a json file in the zip.
Other than that, I have a folder that I put the zips into (called, unimaginatively 'mod zips'), and the 'mods' folder that I put the unzipped folder into. If I run the mod manager exe to activate/deactivate mods then it does change the mod folders name (i.e. if deactivated puts '-' before the folder name), but once the game starts it always says the mod manager is out of date (even though it is the current one on git) and none of the mods are active.
I am heartened that numerous players are trying to be helpful, and also by the apparent fact that mods are working for them. These forums are very good for determining whether a game's fanbase is toxic or not; so far four helpful users versus two ... not.
There is probably better guides to use mods out there, I was just so happy that there is so many quality mods for this game. Also important to check how old the mod is before using it, many mods on nexus is very old and many dont work, reading comments can help, or just try. On mods.io most mods I have tried is working so I prefer mod.io. I do't subscribe I just download files.
I use "mods" folder in steam game folder, did not know that they could be put into documents also.
I'm currently using 168 :)
I was using 4 :D
I am going to try this.
Okay, so just to add to the weirdness in my life.
I created a user/documents/anno1800/mods folder and copied the four mods that I really wanted to work into it. I started a new game and the in-game mods button was flashing so I opened that, the six mods that I had active in the games/anno1800/mods folder were showing as active in-game and are working in my new game.
Not the four in the documents mod folder, the six in the games mod folder.
Personally I only use one folder, the "mods" folder in game folder. I hope you get it to work :)
The ingame mod browser can be bugged out by some mods, so I never use ingame mod browser.
thanks, this helped
Anno now comes with an integrated mod browser, but for me it didn't come up (I already installed mods in the mod folder)... is this behaviour only because of the steam edition?
1. Where are all my mod.io files?
2. Do I just add the Nexus file to the mods folder and that's it?
