Ship destroyed in Cape Trelawney
A schooner on a trade route was destroyed abruptly and without warning. I moved my salvager ship close to the site and it warned me of a mine, so that was probably the cause of the 'accident.' Any ship passing that spot will be destroyed. A gunboat belonging to Vasco was nearby, so I suspect that he is responsible. What can be done about this?
Is there an item that will enable ships either to destroy these mines or avoid them?

Use a mortar to take out the mine.

Thanks! Fortunately I had a grapeshot cast mortar in my inventory. I equipped a gunboat with it, used the salvage ship to find the mine's exact location, approached it with the gunboat, clicked on the mortar, and fired at the mine. Worked like a charm! Perhaps I should have tried equipping the salvage ship itself with the mortar, but it probably wouldn't work as it is not considered a warship.

I couldn't find anything in the Wiki or in this group ("mine" being such an ambiguous term to search on) to learn this valuable fact for myself. How did you find out?

I lost 2 ships trying to gather the flotsam left by the first ship that got hit. (Very counterintuitive that the mine(s) can keep exploding in the same spot.)
Then I searched the internet and found the answer either on Steam ot reddit, I can't remember.
