Is the Ubisoft launcher required for the Steam version?
Hello,
Can you play the game without having to launch the horrendous Ubisoft launcher? I'm asking before buying it on Steam.

You need the Ubisoft launcher.

was about to ask the same thing, but i guess i won't be spending money on it then, one platform/launcher is more than enough already, no need for that uplay garbage on my system :steamdeadpan:

Yes you need it. But after first launch, you can have it in offline mode
Cocytus Dec 23, 2022 @ 10:55am
as if the offline mode would change anything about having to install that bloatware in the firstplace

This is why I brought game on ubisoft rather than steam to get full support and only had to deal with one tech support team rather than 2 tech support team if buy on steam or other type store if issues come up. Sometime I do had gog, origin, steam, Ubisoft, Oculus, so go on, but I only launcher one at a time when I want to play game or look at forum most of time, then shut down if i want to play other game on other launcher. One store can't be everything, sometime one had to do this or that if one want to play certain game, while steam is very good store, but it's not all be all, sometime it's unrealistic to make one themself limited to one store/launcher when there is good game out there that was not on steam.

tbh, if there's a "good game" out there requiring more store platforms than steam then so be it, i won't be getting it since one such platform is more than enough blöoatware on my pc already, no need for all the other trash, like serriously, why would i ever willingly install uplay for a single damned game, same for origin and heck, don't even mention the epic fail store...

This should be illegal. I paid for the game. I should actually own the game. Forcing me to use their launcher effectively makes this a service, or a lease. The FTC should do something about this.

games have been sold as a service for even longer than steam was selling them, it used to be mostly MMOs back then, but yea, by now all games are basically sold as a service unless you buy the completely drm free ones on GOG, not a fan of it either but eh, it's what the failed community wants and the few remaining people that see through it just have to deal with it =/

Thanks for creating the topic. It also reminded me why I did not get the game.

It aint a problem of multiple launchers.

It is a problem that Ubisoft has a history of broken launchers. I have a couple of their old games I cannot play because the Uplay launchers were broken.

You never ever *owned* any Game....
All you ever did since Gaming exist is buying a Licenze to play it.

it IS a problem of multiple launchers, because why the F would i want even more bloatware on my pc? i couldn't care less if the launcher actually works or not, i simply don't want it in the first place^^

thing is, before steam and other platforms like it sold games you basically had a hard copy of the games you could install any time you wanted and just play, by now you're only buying for a service that might get revoked at any time or imagine them adding updates that make the game unplayable to you and you're just sitting there having spent money on something you can't actually play without anything you could do about it.

That IS what I said. By allowing their launchers to remain broken they basically cut off you access.

Aside from MMOs that shut down their servers Ubisoft games are the ONLY games I have ever lost access to.

Well cheaper games lul. I prefer uplay over steam in some aspects but steam has forums so thats a big plus but i was pissed about steam forcing me to install it after i bought a disced game too back in 2012.
Cocytus Dec 28, 2022 @ 7:48am
well, i simply had steam from basically day 1 on my first account back then since i was rather active on cs1.5 and 1.6 later on, never imagined it would get this big but now that it is it's definitely the only launcher i'll ever install willingly.

and sure, if you wanna go for epic for the "cheaper" games at the cost of your dignity and privacy go for it, i couldn't stop you anyway
