Do you need to reinstall every time you buy a DLC?
I bought the game along with Bright Harvest. After the requisite 20 minutes of fiddling with Steam, Ubisoft Connect and game files just to get Anno 1800 to start, I've been able to play.

After playing for a while I decided to also purchase the "Vibrant City Pack" cosmetic pack. It does not work. The purchase completed and I have a receipt. Steam tells me the DLC has been downloaded "and will be installed with the game" (which is of course already installed). When I open the DLC management popup in Steam it shows the pack and its Ubisoft validation thingy with check-marks beside them.

The "Additional Content" menu in-game shows Bright Harvest installed, but prompts me to buy Vibrant City Pack. When I start a new game or load a save I have no access to the DLC's content. The painter tool still works on the market to switch it to and from Christmas mode, but doesn't work on houses etc.

Verifying game files doesn't seem to force install the DLC, nor does unchecking and then rechecking in the DLC management window. Restarting both Steam and Ubisoft Connect does not help.

Am I to reinstall an entire 86GB game just because I bought a cosmetic pack? That doesn't make any sense. A few days ago I bought the Sam's Story DLC for Metro Exodus, and it installed the new content by itself and I was then able to play it.

Has anyone found a way to fix this issue that doesn't involve waiting a few hours for a tedious re-installation?

No, you do not normally have to reinstall the entire game just because you bought a single DLC or Season Pass.
But there's a lot of trouble surrounding the re-launch of the game on Steam, so I'd suspect most of the other problems including yours might also be a part of it.

Re-installing hasn't helped me. I've bought two cosmetic packs and I can't access them in game. I've opened a support ticket, will see if it helps.

I've also opened a support ticket with Ubisoft and will likely have to wait a while for any sort of resolution.

FYI: I tried requesting a refund of the DLC, but Steam denied me because their policy forbids refunds of DLC if you've played the base game over two hours. Apparently the DLC *not working* doesn't matter. Maybe someone else will have more luck.

I won't be buying any DLC again until after Ubisoft figures their ♥♥♥♥ out.

Hey there guys,

Apologies for the delay.

No - you shouldn't have to reinstall the game at all.

The DLC should install on it's own and then become available in-game.

As a week has passed - I'd just like to check if the DLC is still not accessible in-game?

I'm still waiting on mine to activate. I have a case open with Ubisoft support, but they've been looking into it for almost a week now.

To fix it, I uninstalled the ubisoft connect and installed it from here.
(No need to delete saved games or games, just the program itself)

steamapps\common\Anno 1800\Support\Ubisoft\UbisoftConnectInstaller.exe

When I restarted the game, it registered the DLC that I had previously purchased!

I spent a whole week waiting for the DLC to magically activate, but it didn't happen.
Apparently, when ubisoft connect is installed and updated, it re-registers purchases and finds the new DLC you bought on steam.

Lo que me funciono a mi fue lo siguiente.

Para solucionarlo desinstale el ubisoft connect y lo instale desde aquí.
(No hace falta ni borrar partidas guardadas ni los juegos, solo el programa en si)

steamapps\common\Anno 1800\Support\Ubisoft\UbisoftConnectInstaller.exe

In that case, perhaps the best option is to contact ubisoft support. They have a chat available on their website.

In my case, I waited a week before trying anything and when I reinstalled the ubisoft connect, as soon as I started it, it showed me the registration that it had detected and added the DLC.

En mi caso, me demore una semana antes de probar nada y al reinstalar el ubisoft connect, apenas inicio, me salio el registro que había detectado y agregado los dlc.

I reported the problem to Ubisoft Support and they requested a log file from me, but have unfortunately not since followed up on it after at least a week.
