How to configure Anno 1800 & Ubisoft Connect on Steam Deck

Steam Deck owners! In case you've been curious, Anno plays very well with the Deck; I've been having a blast running Anno 1800 (and Anno 2205) on mine with medium/low settings.

Found an effective guide on getting Ubisoft Connect working perfectly on the Steam Deck OS, Proton. Works whether you've got the game installed on the internal drive or on an SD card.

I'm having trouble getting it to play in game mode on the Steam Deck.

I click play. Shows Ubisoft Connect looking for patches screen. Goes to log in screen (user name and password are blank). Says preparing to launch game and syncing cloud.

Then I get a black screen and nothing happens.

Yes, it works fine on my desktop. The problem I'm having pertains to game mode on the Steam Deck.

The following command in launch option does get it working

PROTON_LOG=1 %command%

Unfortunately it generates a report file in your home directory, which can grew up to several 100 MB, so just delete it now and then.

the game is available on steam itself now is this tutorial still needed?

Its about time valve starts working on a fix for all the games that "do not work" Also the anticheat software needs to be fixed so games can be played online too

You would have to buy the game again on steam. I did, but I love the game, I'm not sure if everyone would do that. As for the online part. In a different thread I got a reply from Ubi, they don't yet seem to acknowledge that multiplayer just doesn't work for steamdeck.

In another thread, they said they would sent my feedback to the developers, but there weren't any plans on getting it done (multiplayer, controller support)

This would work on a normal PC running Ubuntu correct? I don’t see why it shouldn’t work but I just want to check

I'm having a hard time with the control, since I've never played it before in my deck, is there a good controller setup?
