Downloading Open Beta (Asking for CD Key) **SOLVED**
Looking for help in downloading the Open Beta. I pre-ordered the game on steam. When I attempt to download Open Beta on Uplay a screen pops up requesting that I enter the CD Key or Activation Code. I can't get past that screen and am unable to locate the CD Key on Steam (not showing up under Links like other games). Has anyone else had this issue? If so, how did you resolve it? Thanks.

**Possible Solutions**
1. If you are opening Uplay via steam and only getting the News and Games tab, try quitting Uplay and opening it manually and logging in. The "Anno 1800 Open Beta" Tab may become visible.
2. If that doesn't work, make a new account (it's free) or log into a friend's account...the issue may be that YOUR'E STEAM LINKED

Uplay: Click on the Anno 1800 Open Beta tab, just below the video listed there is a yellowish pre-load the beta botton.

http://prntscr.com/naoegd How do you get around this, Steam doesn't allow access to the CD Key yet:fredisappointed:

Yeah, the Anno 1800 Open Beta tab doesn't show up when I log into Uplay. I think this is due to the same reason that the Shop tab isn't visible which is that my Uplay account only has games purchased via Steam. I thought that I could get around that issue by logging into my account at http://shop.ubi.com/ and selecting "Play Open Beta on PC" but that just takes me to the "enter CD Key or Activation Screen on Uplay". I appreciate the attempt to help. I may just have to wait until the release date.

Ok, "fixed" the issue. It turned out that my Uplay account only having games purchased via Steam was the issue. I purchased a cheap game on the online Uplay store and opened Uplay again. Now the Anno 1800 Open Beta tab is visible along with the Shop.

I just found out if you have your steam acct linked to uplay you do not get the full launcher.. go here and https://store.ubi.com/us/home/?lang=en_US type in 1800 and it should let you download..

Thanks for the help Cassie. Yeah, I originally tried to download it from the "https://store.ubi.com/us/home/?lang=en_US" link before but kept getting the "Activate a Key" screen that Mudkip1001 posted above. It appears (at least in my case) that if you only have Steam Purchased games attached to your Uplay account then you can't download the Open Beta. Once I had purchased a heavily discounted game from the Uplay store I was finally able to download the Open Beta.

i do have to say that having to purchase something should not be an acceptable solution. anyone find a solution other than having to purchase something.

Cassie, I also agree that you shouldn't have to buy a game to download a free beta. It only cost me $2.50 but I have to admit that I died a little bit on the inside when I did it and I wish I had seen the solution you posted above before buying it.

I updated the original post to reflect your recommendation. Thanks again for the help.

If you only have the client from buying Steam games, and buying a game from the Ubi store 'fixed' it, my guess would be the problem is due to some missing info in the Ubi account, most likely the payment info or billing address. If people are having this issue, might be worth making sure the payment and billing data is filled in for the account (click your avatar pic after logging in, they should be on the menu), close and re-open U-play and see if it starts behaving itself.
