Output of Coal Mine vs Charcoal
It's the same, though the mine needs 5x more workers
Is it just to save space? You only get a limited amount of coal mines, and you still have to deal with the increased demand of using more workers.
It should be at least 1 coal per 15 seconds to match iron mines

The coal mines don't cause pollution tho, not sure about the attractiveness, but I'd bet the charcoal hut has more of a negative impact on the attractiveness. And the space saving aspect is important on a limited sized island.

im sure this will still be balanced later on

There are some serious balance/bug issues with production in the beta .e.g. when I started building more bananas plantations as my population grew, it would decrease my production output not increase it.
Generally, you want to replace your charcoal burners as soon as you reach the Artisans, as the Coal mines don't take up any space that's not dedicated for mines anyway.

Wait. What? We have to worry about pollution? No one cared about pollution in the 1800s. Please say we don't need to care about it in this game!

That's the one and only thing I disliked about Anno 2070: the pollution aspect. :steamsad:

You don't have to worry about it, its only for if you are trying to make the island attractive to tourists because smog is not something they typically enjoy - and even then you could probably make up for it with a lot of decoration and/or an especially big zoo and museum.

It affects happyness slightly if you decide to build your houses right next to it, because smog, but that's not difficult to avoid. (and even if you don't, its not that big of an impact because this was a thing of the times. Workers living in filthy industrial areas and whatnot)

Also for the above comments: It doesn't matter if it requires more workers, you'll have plenty for it. The big advantage being you don't have to worry about the horrible space those charcoal ones take up, which is a pain if you are trying to be efficient with your space.

Okay, that's good to hear. :steamhappy: I don't mind it having local areas of effect as you describe; that's not immersion-breaking nor annoying. It makes sense that people don't want to cough up a lung or tourists don't want to visit a dirty, ugly city.

As long as it doesn't globally affect production, I'm happy.
