no active pause?
I'm not used to play Anno games, but there seems to be a lot of things to do at the same time, and there is no active pause option? As far as I can see there is also an Old and a New World where you have colonies - how can you manage all that? What if a war breaks out in both Worlds at the same time?
As said, I don't know these games, but it looks interesting, but also intimidating.

What do you mean by active pause?

The Anno games are known for their complexity and that in itself is what makes the game so appealing to many players, myself included.

active pause: you can plan builds, give orders etc. while paused.

The trick about Anno is to have everything in order and working all the way up and after so that you dont have to ( put out small fires ) all the time later on.

So when you attack or get attacked you dont have to worry to much about rest of the game for a while.

In that case its not a big problem to have two worlds running at same time.

In fact active pause is the most needed thing in Anno!
In the previous Anno games it was always terrible, that you couldn't plan in peace.
While you plan on which island which production fits best and what's the best design of your ship routes, the game continues with messages, pirates battles etc.. So annoying!
So you have to save, plan in mind while ignoring what's happening and reload save. Then you have to execute your plan as fast as possible. Great!

You could pause in previous Anno games....

Anno games can be quite complex indeed but having active pause would make the game way too easy. It is already very easy if you understand the basics and are able to multitask at least a bit.

Like Nenne. said it is also about making sure that everything works smoothly - so that you don't have to take care of details when something major like war happens.

It might take some time to understand the basic mechanics and what to do and in which order. For me Anno is an easy game, and I am one of those who ask for even more complexity than we already have in 1800.

The anno games are pretty forgiving. If you dont fix a problem like to little of something direct they will not be to angry too fast. You have good time too fix it so if you do battle for lets say 20 minutes its okay too fix bread after. just dont wait too long for it cause in the long run things will go wrong.

I am one that also want more complexitry in games like this and and harder responds form citisens.

Active pause is realy dont neddded

I also like complexity, but adding complexity by preventing user from reading information is just bad. When things go wrong they typically go wrong all at the same time, and I need a way to react to all of them.

Lack of active pouse also prevents me from reading flavor text. I am trying to read what is going on in expedition while I keep getting interupted by fires, pirate attacks, newspaper articles and other issues. And I have only 3 colonies, imagine what will happen when I will have 20 of them.
It just makes the game almost unplayable.

I agree. Imho this is because of multiplayer who nobody needs but all the kids are whining for it and when they implement it they have to think about such things like "Pausing" the game because in MP you cannot have it obviously. They put everywhere MP-competition in, even in games like Tropico and SimCity. Developers gone completely gaga for MP. Everyone wants to create esport and fill stadiums

You can run the game at basic speed and it'll go extremely slow, it gives you all the time in the world to read. This is how I do it.

I'm playing the open beta; if just the game paused, when you are reading messages from expeditions and the like, it might be ok, but in the background the game still runs. Maybe it doesn't matter that much but it creates the feeling that you have to finish it soon or you might miss something important elsewhere.

I posted on the lack of an "active pause" (great way to refer to it) and it did not go anywhere, so I searched and found this better thread about PAUSE. Without an ACTIVE PAUSE, I think I speak for some (not all) that this game is not fun.., it is stressful. Is there anyone that knows if this will be at least an OPTION in the future, or is there a way to create an ACTIVE PAUSE in the Options that none of us can find thus far. Thank you for reading.

I would prefer the game with an active pause because its a little stressful some times but meh its better to be a little stressful some times than have no stress at all like Skylines for example
gmsh1964 Apr 18, 2019 @ 3:17pm
I am just stating it would be a welcome OPTION.
