Is tourism still not worth it?
Been playing around with it, admitelly I didn't manage to complete any sets of items but so far the results were very underwhelming, all those influence points could be better spent on literally any other area, and the costs might never pay themselves back =/

You'll get to a point in the game where all opposition have been eliminated (assuming you go down the military route), and there isn't much to spend influence on besides Zoo, Botanica, Museum. If you're looking for income value, then maybe not. I certainly don't recommend diving into it early game.

would be nice if the zoo and museum would not take up so much influence.
It is hard enough punishment they require vast amounts of space as it is.

It's really the only way to get specialists to your island for free, higher your attractiveness the more higher rated specialist you can get

Also with the season pass 2, when u build the palace, you should be able to recover all the influence you invest in zoo museum, legendary specialist are only through tourism
I didn’t realize tourism is a burden on the economy, will keep that in mind, was about to build the pier but now I’ll hold off on my new game.

It's not, the OP is just concerned that the investment takes awhile to get a return. I'd say it's well worth it for the specialists that can come and just having something nice and extra to look at. It does boost your income.
