i always loved city building games, i grew up playing , caesar 3, emperor and anno 1404, but one thing i disliked in all this games was the war/militar aspect.
i always feel like war was a distraction from the game main feature, the city management.
You can have games without combat. Just create your custom game without any thrid parties... only neutral parties, like the ones only having a harbor on a small island to trade with ye, without buildings or anything.
Thus you are the only player capable of building on the map, so you dont need to do any warring ;)
I still hope we get walls and towers as decor items.
In anno 1404 war was decided at sea. The player with more ships simply did win and killed all trading ships. Just numbers did count.
And yeah, landwar in 1404 was tedios. It takes like 30min to conquer a marketbuilding. After the capture, the AI used to build new ones nearby.
You invade via the port and lay claim to the island or another action, I forgot the specifics but that's how you do it. They showcased it in one of their videos where they bullied Jorgensen
You have to destroy the harbour, but the harbour is now very strong.
You have to destroy ~60%-90% of the harbour combined hitpoints.
After this you can choose to conquer the island or take shares of it.
