How to give electricity to engineers?
Am I understanding correctly that I have to put an oil power plant everywhere in the middle of my city just to give everyone power? Most of my island is unreachable with train tracks because It's all fully built, without having thought of train tracks and power plants everywhere around the island. Am I missing something or is this really that much of a chore?

You will need to redesign your city if you did not preplan it to include electricity.

At least you have this knowledge for future island builds or new games.

I'm not yet at this tier of the game but check the "World Exhibition Metropolis" at this link to see how you can put your powerplants

It really is that much of a chore... kinda... Thankfully, if you have all tech 2 roads, the coverage distance is quite far. You shouldn't have to fit in many of them in

I think they should just give us power lines and transformers. Bc placing an actual power plant right next to everyone is weird to me. Their range of coverage is to low also.

Alright thanks, I guess I'll have to think through a new layout! Thanks for the answers :)

A road that also fits trains (at a much higher cost of course) would work quite well imo. Many real world cities have parts of their public transport on tracks which run right above regular streets (on bridge like constructs). Quite a frequent sight in Hamburg or Berlin.

I agree that there should be an elevated train track! It does suck that you have to reorganize your whole city for electricity but its actually realistic

I dont feel that is realistic, If you have existing cities, they would not reorganize the city for power. They organize the power for the city. Which is why transformers/power stations with power lines would be a better option. However, it is what it is, they are not going to redo this part of the game just for that. I mean, the train itself is ridiculous in how it operates, but I played to much transport fever to say anything about trains and tracks lol. You know those 90dg turns the train makes. :)
Anyway, its still a fun challenge.

I'm pretty sure that transformers and high voltage infrastructure wasn't there at first. At the very begining there was only DC not AC, which means that powerplants were indeed very limited in range.

Yes they did, in 1880s time frame they had the first stages of transformers/generators . By 1885 they had closed core transformers.

You can also move buildings to create open spaces to build these plants. There's a button on the menu bar in the shape of a hand (or press your M key). You can grab houses and other things to move them elsewhere to make open plots in the middle of your city to place down those power plants for optimal coverage.
