1404 is just a great classic, I can't really say anything bad about it, I should replay it, since few years passed.
2070 was rather cold and off-putting at the start, but, after I gave it a second go, I lost many hours in it before I knew. I love how it expanded on the idea of separating the map from 1404 and, instead of giving us two zones in one map, it gave us two maps in one. Also, loving the idea of using the tech from each faction to mix them and get the most optimal results.
2205 was really restraining with the campaign only mode. Still, I love how it expanded even further on the idea to play on few maps at the same time, each one with unique mechanics, buildings and resources, each one depending on the other maps. It pretty much moved the shipment part between islands to be between the sectors and the ships got replaced by transport lines.
As for 1800 - it took the goodies from the previous games and expands on them. What I truly loved since the tech preview, was the fact it expanded on the 2205 idea of having different zones, each of which acts like the normal anno map we loved from the classics. And I just can't wait for the arctic expansion.
I have 2070 on Steam as well and might download that one again too, since it feels like 1404 in the future. The world events and extra features were cool.
I skipped 2205
The other older ones I can barely remember, I did like 1701, I think just the aesthetic.
1503 was a hidden favorite, with this 2.5d small markets and Research!
1701 had a good Story, but no Multiplayer
1404 i think my Alltime Favorite and MP!
2070 difficult with the Product Cycle at the beginning, more challenging with Keto
2205 was mehhh, not really Challenging, but im not a builder, more a fighter in Coop.
1800 has more longtime Playstyle, started the Campaign on Expert, and it wasn't difficulty, only bugged. Still missing Bankster achievement, with 2x the campaign done
Overall i think 1404>1503>2070>1800>1602>1701>2205
At the moment I'd give Anno 1800 a 5/10.
2 Anno 1404
3 Anno 2070
4 Anno 1602
Somewhere in hell anno 2205.
Then it's Anno 1404 and Anno 2070. Anno 1404 captivated me because I didn't have a computer to run it and thought the venice DLC would let me build a venetian city. It didn't, but I liked the game a ton anyway.
I loved the Ark System in Anno 2070. Made it feel like my continuous games were all connected and I liked the Strategy of basically getting to pick my starting resources. I really like the art style even if I didn't like the binary eco system.
Ive played Anno 1800 and i think its to easy. I don't like that you need workers for your factories, and as such you need to spread out your resources to several islands. If they would have had the commuter pier in T2, then perhaps it would have been different.
Futhermore, im bothered that the South America colonies only have 2 tiers, i think thats pretty lazy from the devs.
I was hoping that the trade ships would be steam tugboats instead of a slimmed version of a sail ship.
But, perhaps whats most frustrating is that almost no map has any good angles on the beaches on the islands making it extremely difficult to make beautiful harbor areas.
You may should check the timeframe. By 1800, sailing ships were the the only used ships to go across the ocean. steamships developed only in the late 19th century and you will be able to build steam powered ships on later tiers.
