Which is the best Anno game?
So far, in your opinion. And why?

How does Anno 1800 stack up against the other titles?

Depends on how much they'll patch this one and if the dlc's are good. 1800 has a good chance of becoming the best game in the series with a bit more polishing. So far 2070, 1404 and 1800 are about even I'd say.

I would've loved for 2205 to be the winner, because I absolutely love the setting. The mechanics of it however, were so simplistic and boring that I was truely disappointed. I'm glad they're back on track with 1800. Mechanically it's already the best imo. It's a bit rough in some areas right now though (diplomatics, camera-map relation, ship loading/unloading).
Anno 1800 so far on par with 1404. I still have to play 1800 more.
Anno 1404:Venice (i played it to death before steam but the steam version crashes for me) and Anno 1800 currently.Mostly due to the atmosphere they provide - the music and the setting.

2070 currently my favourite. But 1800 is a contender for first place.

It all depends on the future updates and DLC.

It's hard to beat Deap Ocean though, that was epic!

check out gog dot com version. works like a charm for me
for me, the first one was the best....i can never remember which year is what with these games....i thought it was 1401, but when i double checked the numbers to make sure i had the right number, i realized i was way off....1602. second favorite is 1701. i generally play 1701 because i don't know where my CD when for 1602.

Im sure that with a few patches and some expansions 1800 will surpass als it's predecessors. I've sunk massive amounts of time into the anno series and to me they just improved each release (skipped 2205 tho).

The major downsides of 1800 are basically nonexistent content regarding campaign, scenarios and achievements, and the very questionable naval combat. For me the game systems just interact in a way more challenging and complex way in 1800. There is no new addition it brings to the series that I disliked so far. To me 1800 plays absolutely satisfying and the setting is a great choice to me. I think a lot of design choices reflect the era it's set it.

I really loved both 2070 and 1404, but for me with some polishing and expended content 1800 will beat them. Let's see what they do with these community challenges and how they do the Arctic and if they add some oriental or African stuff too.

Yep i hope for future content and balancing too :)

From gameplay mechanics, definetely Anno 1800.

The Toplist.

1. Anno 1800
2. Anno 1404
3. Anno 2070
4. Anno 1602
5. Anno 1503
6. Anno 1701
7. Anno 2205

Similar to me :)
Anno 1800, but I have not played any others lol. I do have Anno 2070 in my backlog and plan to play it at some point though. I am really enjoying this, and I am glad I bought this instead of Tropico 6.

While i like the settings of 2205 the mechanics simply didn't feel like Anno and I still played 1404 way more. Especially the researching or "tech trees" with the NPC's were really neat and that's stuff i kinda miss in Anno 1800.

On the contrary, 1800 provides quite some advanced optimizations with all these items and applying them locally through a building. So, if the rough edges of 1800 are being smoothed and the DLC's are good... it's definitely one on the top of all my Anno favorites.

In my opinion, the best Anno game is Anno 1404. The campaign makes it still better than Anno 1800. It's just more diverse and more emotional. Anno 2070 - Deep Ocean was also great which is why Anno 2070 is on the second place for me. It was very creative and the environmental system was very cool. I just did not like the coal rotary extractor[anno2070.fandom.com]. The devs seem to have never seen open-cast mining. They should have used a coal mine with a shaft tower instead. I can't say Anno 1800 is better than Anno 2070 yet because we don't know what content really will be delivered in the next twelve months. If everything goes right, Anno 1800 will become the second best Anno game. If everything goes way better than just right, Anno 1800 will become the best Anno game.
1503. freeplay. best sense of history and scale -- best city builder.
1800 is so complex, its pretty great. Im having a blast.
While land combat doesnot existed sea combat and islands is back.
Workforce from 2205 is also back meanwhile Workforce is tied to a single island this forcing you to settle on another island.
"Ecobalance" is also back from 2070 while its not really ecobalance but peoples are complaining if Pollution is high.
Electricity existed! Oh boy... Those oils are mine!

Everything is very awesome... Many islands many peoples... But the Royal Tax is really annoying. Really? Royal tax is sucks! Anno 1800 forcing many peoples to settle on many island but guess what? The more you have, the more royal tax you will get.

I tried to go back and play some more 2070 but just couldn't after 1800. It was a great game, don't get me wrong, but I felt like I had taken a huge step backwards in 2070 after just 15 hours in 1800
