All ships stop moving when an island attack starts

just startet to do some conquering, but whenever i start an island attack with a group of ships, all my other moving ships stop moving.
this is luckily not affecting trade routes, but keeping an attack going with a reserve fleet while sending the main fleet home for repairs became somewhat rage inducing for me.
intentional,overseight, bug? anyone else has notices, or has noticed the opposite?

i am expecting the ship ai and the auto-engagement stuff in conjunction to be at fault thought

no i havent come across this.

I have several small fleets moving around 3 or 4 ships in every fleet and about 4 or 5 fleets.
Never had this issue.

Although when you sail against the wind it can look as they are standing still.

well it where ironclads, and they stood still :)
have you specificly attacked islands while moving your fleet elswhere? because i had no issue with just ship-to-ship battles, only when i actually hit coastal defences.

however if it is not a known issue it might be something else entirely that i am just connecting wrong

Yes i have tried that.

Since i have so many fleets when i attack an island or other ships they are regulary moving in and out of battle
Attacks from different angels all the time.

1 fleet is anchored behind the battle to take care of defending ships arriving towards the island and they have no problem moving around during battle.

Although am not at steam ships yet so maybe i will encounter it there.

I have a similar issue. My ships stop moving from time to time. I have not yet attacked an island, though and I have only sailing ships.
It happens only sometimes when I give a direct order to a ship or fleet. Sometimes they just stop somewhere.
Happened again just a few minutes ago with my flagship. I populated a new island and ordered the ship back to my main island. After about 10 minutes I wanted to populate another island and wondered where my ship was. I found it sitting in the middle of the ocean.
It hasn't been attacked or something since I am at peace with everyone.

ship control is mostly glitchy for some reasons. Sometime a ship that you send on expedition will just stop randomly maybe near the border of the map, and just sit there. Sometimes a random ship on an attack mission will start moving to another direction like their captain should be executed for insubordination.
