I'd say: always try DX12 first, as this game heavily relies on raw CPU power. If that's not working well, you can always switch back to DX11

DX12 no doubt, uses much less CPU in big cities.

too many factors than just cpu and gpu involved, test it and see for yourself. usually dx12 gives you better results if you have lacking single core but good multi threading capabilities. its a low lvl api, similar to vulkan or mantle. really not any rocket science, its usually very obvious which gives better performance if it matters on your system. if its not noticeable it doesnt matter.

DX12 gets a lot of flak because it's unstable in a lot of games, but it can also massively increase performance.
My FPS jumped from 37 to 77 in the same city, same save file, just by switching from 11 to 12. No crashes.

What the other guy said, always try DX12 first. If it crashes or is buggy, switch to DX11.

Thanks, I will try both and see how game performs. Who knows, there might be 1-3 fps gain here.

Wow thats a massive performance gain. I am impressed. Definitly gonna try dx 12.

Was using dx12 until i start getting crash cause dx12 failed.Just be aware of it.When using dx11 i got no problem.1080 ti here.

That's just my rig though. Might not be that noticeable for you.
It's probably because my CPU has a lot of cores rather than high speed cores, if what the other post said is true.

Either way, it's worth a try, use a city as benchmark as biggest gain there.

Im using the 6850k and 1080 and i chose DX12. Seems to run okay no crashes to desktop, hard locks or anything in 6 or so hours that i've played it.

Same, no crashes here either.

I can report that game runs better on dx 12. Less stuttering and it feels just smoother. One crash though, when I mimized the game. ???? Game runs hotter too. Hmmmm.

I have a I7 3770k, 16 GB rams with a Asus Strix 1080ti. During the Open Beta I set the game with Dx12 and now with the full game I doesn't touch anything (so the game is by default in Dx11) and it's a lot smoother than before.

I gonna try the Dx12 option, but for exemple in Battlefield V the Dx12 option is unplayable. And with Dx11 I get average 100 FPS (full Ultra).

I have considerably higher FPS with DX11. Just try both and see what works best for your setup

most games advertising DX12 unfortunately are not at all optimized for that api and are just converting DX11 thinking to DX12 using - which is not helping performance at all.

12 seems to work better for my setup. I notice a bit more fps though not much.
