Nasty Memory Leak
I'm not sure if that's the proper term for this but the game slows down significantly the longer it stays running, even if you open the game, press esc and leave it paused for 1 or 2 hours then come back, if you start playing you'll notice some heavy FPS drops at late game.

Currently I'm sitting over 25k people about to get my first investor and damn, if I actually play the game for over 20 minutes I can get FPS as low as 2, it's unplayable.

From what I've been reading this may also be a problem exclusive to the steam version of the game.

Specs:
i7 8700k
GeForce 1070 Ti
16 GB DDR4 2666mhz
SSD

Can you confirm this issue with an actual RAM usage result?

That's why I wasn't sure if that was the real term, I'm not sure if it's memory, i'll take a look taking screenshots of system usage before and after it happens, all I can tell for now is that it slows down heavily over time and all you have to do to keep playing is close the game and open it again, goes from 2 FPS to 60

Left side is before, right side is after, it's actually consuming less RAM, GPU is in another tab but it's basically 20% so it shouldn't be an issue.

Right side was taken at 5 FPS over towns, even the smaller ones, after playing for 2h

Don't know if that's the proper term for it, but it still exists.
30k inhabitants game

PS: 6.2gb RAM in cache, so the usage isn't as high as it looks.

anno2205 had maybe the same issue. You often did need after playing for some more 2 hrs to get the game reboot so it cleared hidden used memory. and you can play again for a while. Maybe it has to still something to do with the steam issue ,friends , your FPs will drop?

Wait, so this is "normal"?
To me it's a gamebreaking bug, is it never going to be fixed?
For instance I could never play a multiplayer game as nobody would be willing to close and open the game every hour and face the nasty performance issues leading to the restart time every time.

I have Anno 2205 as well but it's on Uplay, so I never had this issue.

I have the game on Uplay and this happens to me as well. Not a Steam exclusive problem.

I've noticed that interface errors (building/ship bar disappears, can't toggle the New World map in trade routes, can't rename island) become more prominent as time goes on so I just restart the game.

It's not as bad as Anno 1404, which I was extremely disappointed that Ubisoft just kind of let that memory leak slide and never patched it. Still pretty annoying though.

I used to run out of memory(windows actually gives a popup telling me to close anno to prevent a system crash) at little under 3 hours. Then I disabled both steamoverlay and uplay overlay. It still slowly keeps using more and more memory but I can atleast play for 8 hours until I have to reboot the game.

How do you disable those overlays? I want to try this for Anno 2205, the memory leak is killing it.
