Ship Morale
So, this is something I've not seen before. In prior games (such as the campaign) my ship morale was always at 100 unless a ship had just returned from an expedition.

In this sandbox game however, I'm trying to send a ship on an expedition (I haven't done any yet), and all of my ships are sitting at 10-15% morale. I don't get it. I haven't used them for anything, they're just sitting in my harbor fully repaired.

I get how morale works during expeditions (it lowers/raises based on events), but what am I doing wrong do have such low starting morale?

You need to put items in the ship to increase morale.

Also, depending on the difficulty of the mission, your ships also have a base morale value either lower or higher.

Ah, I see now. The "base morale" changes depending on the mission you're selecting. Basically my crew looks at a super easy mission and goes, nope.. no supplies needed. Then they look at the harder mission and just give up before I even send them out.

Yeah. It's VERY risky to do three-skull difficulty expeditions with a ship of the line. I'd recommend waiting until you get a steamship unless you get lucky enough to find some godly items early on.

What products affect moral for faith?

morale is usually affected by every cargo & item, but during each event, having food or alcohol with you helps as they reduce the amount of morale loss after every event. keep in mind, that schnaps doubles as medicine and bread has 5 points of faith afaik.

but if you want to have som real faith boost, look out for specialists which you can take with you.

Faith and Hunting are surprisingly difficult to get expedition bonuses for. I often buy the pearl diver from Isabel just for the hunting, and the telescope (preferably the epic tier one but rare will do) from Sir Archabald Blake.

I know bread and lightbulbs give faith bonuses but it's pretty low. There's an "actor" item that gives both diplomacy and faith. If i remember correctly you just have to get lucky and either have an artisan give you a resident quest, or have them appear as a guest specialist.

Isabel will occasionally sell "Mariana the Master Stylist" who gives 35 craft and 25 faith bonus.

Birds and artifact coins will grant faith bonuses as well.
