Why have trade routes?
Every time i set up a trade route, the other person always change what goods they require. So i then manually have to go back in and choose another good, most likely i don't have it or not enough lol!

So why not just send the boats manually if you have to keep changing the goods i have to load?

Most trade routes should be between your own islands
It's generally not worth it for buying/selling goods to others

I only make trade routes with my own islands. The only time that it's worthwhile (to some extent) is to dump large amounts of goods that you overproduced to the Trader A.I..

I often overproduce things like cannons, sails etc and when I see my warehouse is full I dump half by sending a few ships filled with the goods to the nearest Trader A.I. or at times I'll pick up furs from an AI Opponent and sell to a Traider AI for double the cash, often making 55k to 140k or around there,.

@FluffyNo3
You might be wrong about this one.
Both selling and buying on other peoples harbours go on big saves on money! (except buying from the trader npc islands).
Just compare some prices.
If you buy from an other player's warehouse it cost you way less and if you sell to them you will get ALOT more money from it.
Bad part is they often change there offers so it is not a reliable way to make money but it does make a huge boost.

At this point it does not make alot of diffrence since we usually swim in cash in games but i am sure future dlc will bring us more things to do with our money and then it can matter alot if you make alot money or alot more money.

Automated trading with NPCs used to be a key feature in earlier Anno versions. You couldn't buy or sell a lot but it was enough for a small profit and a slow increase in diplomatic relations. Same in 1800 but the cycling of goods in the npc trade window prevents automatic trade. I don't know why they changed this. You can assign NPCs in trade creation so it would seem they wanted this feature but broke it with the cycling. I suppose you set up a dozen routes and sell everything to them.
