Paused production to stop losing money

This is my first Anno game in the series and I have managed to settle in the New world and have a city of 2300 people in the old world. I have progressed to the 3rd class of the population but find when I have all my factories and production working at once I lose a lot of money and go bankrupt. The only way I can make money slowly is to pause all production. I only have one Alliane.

Any help would be great.

The transition era from 3rd to 4th tier citizen is probably the most difficult part of the game. Having a lot of negative income in pretty normal. To overcome it would I recommend producing ships-of-the-line non stop with 2 shipyards at once and selling most of them. They earn you 25k each.

Ive been selling frigates to try and get money but dont think I have unlocked ship of the line yet. Should I keep production paused?

Depends on how dire the situation is. If you are close to bankruptcy is that your only choice. If not try to expand your population further while the income stays negative.

Also sell some items you earnd from quests if you haven't already. The money is for the time being more useful than their effect.

Thanks for the help. I might try and expand the 1st and 2nd classes of population first and keep them happy to try and get more taxes from them. I think trying to upgrade to the 3rd class of population may be best left for a while then I can keep all production working.

negativ income has allways two sides.

not enough Rum/coffee or not enough people.

if there is enough Rum/coffee, build and upgrade houses and you will shortly get an positive income.

if there are enough upgradet houses and you run out of rum/coffee build new farms

I will make sure I have enough rum and build more houses. I have a few tier 3 population houses but will focus on the lower 2 tiers first. The lower tier population seem to be happy though.

Hi,
If you don't have access to ship of the line , that does mean you are at the beginning of the game.^^
So you may try to sell all the goods that you may have after some carnavals into yours islands :
cigars, champagne ..etc.;
If you are playing with some AI one star : keep your money to buy one share of their main island !!! after try to buy all the share excpte ONE!
It is the best system to win a lot of money...

One thing too ..it is time to relocalete all yours production buildings on an island near your main, (with petrol if possible to get electricity and boost all the production by 2 !! and more if you got the good item to put in a confederation ..)
idem for the food production on an other island to try to keep your main island the more clean possible to attract touritsts!! ^^ the more tourists came, the more you won money..
After some time , you 're will see that money is not really a trouble but get influence points begin a nightmare ...^^

I am playing on a game with a level profil of 63 and soon 64 .. I know what i said.

Ha! I have made a mistake .. you don't have the ship of line so don't have access to the electricity if i remember...

No access to ship-of-the-line yet as I do not have enough artisans. I might try and move production to the other island I have inhabited then. All my heavy production is on the first island but is away from the houses.
