gas can vs fuel can

I recently restarted the game after years, still enjoy it.
I have several fuel cans, but no gas can. relocating gas from/into cars/atvs requires gas cans.
Any advice?

Need the red gas cans, can be found at Main White house, NE military base, near construction forklift in area south of Old waterworks and a couple other places i can't remember. To use you need to carry the can, go to gas filler on vehicle, press E then Q to fill can. To fill vehicle, press E then press E again, to stop action press E, whether filling can or vehicle.

thx, but all these things i know. but this thing in red is called "fuel can" in my inventory ...

My bad, was just on to double check myself, red is fuel can. So, everything is same in what I wrote just replace red gas can with red fuel can.

thx again, but the cars/atv request a "gas can" for the refill while the available item is "fuel can" and therefore not accepted. i am really confused.

Are you trying to refuel via under the hood? The current way to refuel is through the filler door on the side of the vehicles and gas tank on ATV.

So you have to have the 20 liter fuel/gas can in your hands not inventory. Open your inventory, right click the can and you will get an option Carry. That will put the can in your hands, you will see it in your hands. then interact with the fuel door then the tank.
Don't keep filling the can over 20 ltrs. it goes away when you try to use the gas.

To get out of the fueling animation hit the E key to stop.

Oh yea, there are 2 types of cans. A small round red one, and the larger square one. The small red ones are for Propane only. And yes, the game gives 2 different names. in your inventory the red can is called Fuel Can, but when trying to take/give gas, it's called a gas can.

Overfilling gas can results in filling the car the same amount as you would have if it had 20 or below Litres of fuel.
Not that long ago i had filled it up over 35L and filled my car with it only to find out that it fills the same 40% as you would with 20L
