Today's Update March 2, 2024 - Performance
The Eastern Hunting Area is running FANTASTIC! It's the smoothest since the 0.6 update. For a while I was starting to regret building there... but now it's smooth as silk. Very well done Rati! Kudos! The other little tidbits are nice too (Wood Storage fix, pencils, etc). These "little" fixes make a HUGE difference to the game.

I'm a happy camper. The area doesn't lag out when driving in... and running around my base is nice and smooth.

True. Npc was fine before doing the first map. Even when buggy it was just fun bugs we shared on many communities on social media. dog doesn’t really matter at this stage.

I agree with you to a point. The NPCs were buggy AF then. Scott thought he was the Messiah and the girls rarely worked (tasks). They slept in walls and wouldn't use beds. If they're working great after this update is running - I "personal opinion :)" think it'll be great.

"Also my opinion" = Leo sucks. He always has and is annoying. I finally got him to un-follow and stay un-followed. Otherwise, it was going to be a fresh start... which would be lousy at this point (for me).

Yea, I already deleted my longest game due to Leo.

That sucks. It took a few tries to get rid of him. Finally, (I think I was looting far from base), when I told him to un-follow - he stayed gone.

I even tried shooting him and setting him on fire, 👿 Next might have been explosive barrels. Too bad, I love dogs.

Well, I like working with Leo, he cleans up the bandits and the infected for me

I like his combat abilities... but the constant panting and always being underfoot absolutely drove me nuts. Yea, we can make him move away... but being stuck because he would constantly be in the way was just too much. If you like using the pooch, awesome!

Some folks seem to like Leo. My problem with Leo is he will not STAY when I tell him to. He instantly teleports into the truck. Instantly show up when I'm starting a combat. I can cope with him moving inside my base area, but if I tell him to stay in the base area, that is what I mean, stay in the base area.

I'm with you on that slayer. It would be nice to assign him to the base (like human NPCs) and have him stay put. Really, I'd like to have him ride along and help when instructed. Sorry to reiterate, but the 2 things that annoyed me the most were the noise and follow distance. I died to infected once because I couldn't get into cover - because he's always in the freaking way.

What eventually prompted me to find a way to get rid of him - was when unloading the caravan. I'd make a trip upstairs with supplies... go for another load (even after telling him to sit/stay) and have to use the command to move him away - sit/stay again. Make another trip - and another round of "move dog, make dog stay" rinse/repeat.

Maybe in a few patches, he'll be tolerable. Maybe not. Who knows, lol.

Not to be a pain, but do you have an older save? I have rescued Leo and can tell him to stay at base and then go for a run and he is still at base, although if I log away from base while he is there, when I log back on he is with me, but at least for the game time I am free from his underfoot annoyance. Side note: I delete saved games after patches and bug fixes, so I start with a fresh game, which is why I asked about your saved game status.

You aren't a pain at all. I started a new game when 0.6 was released on devtest and have been playing it since. When the devtest went live on the main branch, I switched over and it kept my save/seed. I rescued Leo when he was first put back in (same day on devtest). I believe it was the next day or day after that - I was determined to either get him to leave or kill him to leave.

On that same thought - a lot of the items in the game are not in my save/seed. No rocket launcher. Only 1 flamethrower. A few other things that were added later are not in my game seed/save. Everything else (from further patch notes) are there.

I've verified game files, and otherwise Mist runs perfectly (as far as can be expected). Great question! I hadn't thought of it.

However, I have not rescued him again since - and don't plan to. It took several tries to get rid of the dog. I might pull yesterdays backup and try it... but I'm really not that interested except for testing purposes.

The game I rescued Leo was new. I just could not get him to stay in my base. There were two times that cause him to teleport to me. Getting in the Red truck, and starting combat. The sit/stay command just does not work all the way, or as it should be expected. Perhaps having a "go home" that makes him stay within 100 feet of his doghouse/your base camp marker would be good.

If you're on the move, you can give Leo an unfollow to teleport back to the base

In the base I always give Leo an unfollow then I can drive away in the car without it

This. This would work wonders.

No doubt that Leo and Scott are great until they're not. The latter typically being one of them hanging out on a staircase or in a doorway you need to traverse.

Just read through the patch notes. My log storage is fixed, until the next update... sorry Rati. And we can craft pencils! Not incredibly useful but hoping that's a beginning of almost everything in the game being craftable.
