Vehicle Locations & Parts Questions
New to the game & have some questions.

In searching vehicles, will there ever be anything under the visors? Do I need more than tires, a battery, engine & fuel for a vehicle to function?

I am looking to confirm the map locations for the Red Truck & White SUV that were mentioned as the functional vehicles. In regards to vehicle parts - are they fixed or random on the map?

Also, will ATV's work & is there one that works? Location? I have only seen one at the white house so far. If yes, are the parts different from the other vehicle parts?

Are the trailers different or the same for vehicles? Also, which can the camper trailer that empty be hooked up to?

Thanks in advance!

Some car parts seem to be fixed but check all vehicles. I think I currently have 9 engines, 30 car tires, but only 11 ATV wheels. and about 30 car batteries. They are all over in broken cars. Search them all and if you see a vehicle with a tire on it, take it off and set it out of the way, then if the vehicle resets it items, it may have an extra show up.
Easy finds: Red truck at the power station, saw mill and in a gas station by the two little shops. SUV at the sawmill, and ATV down at the sawmill area in an infected barn.

There is a red pickup at the small petrol station just passed the motel, and a grey/white suv at the lumberyard. A fuel can is always outside the White House base, and tyres are all over. There is an engine on the small car behind the pump station. I know there are batteries but those locations are not coming to mind just now. There is also a carjack in the pump station.

I don’t bother with the ATV at present so can’t help with that, except that the tyres are a different size.

At this time, no reason to check visors. it seems that there were codes hidden in them for things, but not at this time in version 6.

ATV only needs tires and gas to work.
SUV and Truck need the parts you mentioned (Older versions of the game needed a spark plug.)
Truck and SUV can move caravan and small trailer, but the small trailer will break with them. Once hitched you can't un-hitch it or get close to it. Small trailer works just fine with the ATV.
Parts, there are several places that parts will NORMALLY show up but it does seem to have a chance they will not show up.

Thank you for the replies. Some further questions:

Will trailers/caravans need parts? Is the caravan the equivalent of the small atv trailer for the truck/suv?

Do vehicle parts break, deteriorate or cease working, leading to one wanting to stockpile replacements?

Are vehicles/trailers etc. subject to theft / damage from the elements or zombies/bandits?

Any advantages to having 1 of each type of vehicle?

Is gasoline finite or is there a ready & plentiful or restoring source?

The wooden log cart - are those the pre-cut logs in stacks or can you cut trees down & those are the logs?

Do I need a car jack to install parts or does it have a different usage? How many carjacks are out there?

1 - Not sure if the trailers/caravans will ever need parts, but gonna say that I doubt it. That is of course except for the mods available at the trader garage.

2 - Vehicle parts don't seem to deteriorate yet and never really have in older versions of this game. Stockpile regardless cause you just never know what he could change in the future.

3 - Vehicles cannot be used or damaged by infected or bandits, but that wasn't always the case in past versions, so I expect it to be added back in at some point. The bandits could shoot your vehicle up in no time and infected could bang on it and damage it too.

4 - No real advantage to having one of each, but the SUV used to have an awesome mod attachment where you can mount a 50cal gun to the roof. I'd assume that will be reimplemented soon enough.

5 - Gas seems to be finite, but reloads every time you reload your save. Older versions of this game used to refill gas in cars every 30 days. The good part of that is that gas never seems to go down as you have the engine on. That too could change. Just hoard up what you can now.

6 - Any log should fit in the cart

7 - The carjack is to flip or move your vehicle only. It doesn't seem to work properly these days though. ALWAYS save prior to getting in vehicle. You'll thank me later.

Can Gas/Propane be bulk stored in any way beyond the gas cans/canisters or is it a danger? Are there more than 2 gas cans to find? Do I need a hose to siphon or will just the can attached be enough, similar to the gas canisters for propane? Does propane also reload like gas? Would the propane containers, if moved, reload at original point?

I would assume you need to be able to lift it to put the log on the cart? Does the log cart have a reasonable limit before it becomes a hazard to move?

There is no fill limit yet, but normally a gas tank only holds 20 liters, so I only fill mine juuuust over 20 liters so I know that when I use the gas, it will not go from say 60 liters to 20 liters in an instance when you use it.

Propane does reload on reloads. Not usre if you can move the tank and another will spawn on reload, but it was like that for awhile.

There are 2 types of carts. A wooden one with a square box that is for cargo/npc rescue. You can get some logs to stay on it, but only like cargo which means you have to place them. The other cart has angled sides and is designed to only carry logs. anything else will not lock to it and move. You use the q button to load the cart with logs that you are carrying I believe it holds about 15 to 18 logs before it is full.

The precut logs in stacks that you can pick up, that is firewood. You get firewood by chopping a log with an axe in the game now.

anyone can tell me how to start the car ? put on all tires , engine , battery and full fuel but cant seem to find a way to start it , while in the older version i didnt seem to have a problem starting the car . any help would be appreciated cause i cant seem to find a way for it

nvm found out....seems the cars i was trying to ride are bugged (near the abandoned military base on the road ) cause on a new start of the game i was prompted with drive (F) on a vehicle near the ranger station while at the military base F was showing enter car even with all the parts fixed .

Is the vehicle you are trying to drive a red pickup or a grey SUV? Those are the only usable cars and anything put in any other vehicle will surely disappear so you better head back and get that stuff out of there if that's the case.
slayerofgods Jan 4, 2024 @ 12:51pm
Yes, most cars are only for parts. Broken windshield or "rusted" are only for parts. Don't try to use them for storage as they reset and all the stuff you put on/in will go away.
