My usual pattern is to go hunt food every few days which lasts me several days with usually a hunk-o-meat or two left over just in case I get side tracked and do go hunting. Besides that, I always have beef and fruit cans to hold me over in case of emergency. Even in a pinch, find a chicken and you're all good again.
I use the blue water barrel to fill up completely with dirty water and start a batch in the purifier and each 16L lasts me about a week. That big blue barrel can last me a month or so (never cared to count that out though). Find a 2.5L bottle and you're good for about 2 days.
I know that this strategy is no different than many players, but I am pointing this out because I am amazed at all the players complaining about food/water. The only issue I have with this new food/water mechanic is that you better be sure you are fully fed/hydrated before any major time consuming event like house building and sleeping. But, I always did that before, so again, no different really.
This is true, but in this game, you only get a fraction of the meat/fat/fur/guts that you could normally get from any of these animals. Besides, trying to tie in reality in with how this game is designed is a moot argument. We have what we have and it's simply just that. Some of this game is somewhat realistic and some of it is not. Does some balancing need to be done? Absolutely, but until then, play the game the way it is currently designed. If players try to play it differently, then they are going to have issues.
I am in total agreement but since the game isnt balanced yet how about a consumption slider or something like that so we can test other aspects of the game and get some enjoyment for those whom wish it. It might reduce some frustration of new players and let them enjoy what is already here.
Lol real life isn't also eating every 10 hours otherwise you die.
So yeah no this isn't ''muhh go play minecraft'' games that think you die after not eating or drinking for 24 hours is stupid.
In rare cases, water intoxication can cause swelling in the brain and become fatal.
I've done this in my stupid teen years. Not fun. It was "lets see how much water we can drink in a day" You actually get super fatigued and dizzy.
Maybe my Mist charactor wants to die of water intoxication?
