If I recall correctly, leaving the headlamps on doesn't seem to drain the battery at all (as it would in real life). This makes me think that one could use spare cars as lighting sources that don't consume fuel?
Gameedged has taken a massive bunch of the cars and does this with them. He doesn't make lights for his bases, he just brings however many of the drivable cars he thinks it will take and brings them in and parks them with the headlights in the direction he needs light. He has a ring around the outside of the walls at one base to be able to see all the way around the perimiter. In his gas station base he has several inside that light the gates and workstations.
Perhaps if the dev adds some other useful machine that requires electricity to function and lowers the fuel consumption on the generator (or adds the option to set it to different modes), then it might actually become a worthwhile investment. Some beneficial devices that use electricity could include sentry guns, powerful searchlights (that could be used to blind and/or disorient attackers) and electrified fences. Of course, the nights would have to be made much more dangerous to justify crafting these.
The fridge could become more useful if there was a chance that animals may not provide edible meat, but I am not particularly keen on RNG elements being introduced to the game.
Plus the light looks dim because the wind screen is dirty.
i have a difficult time telling when it's noon compared to dusk or dawn sometimes.
