Going to poke around Old West Town. Only noticed wolves and seekers there, but wasn't looking for chickens.
I know the wolves spawn on the south side. Is it south of those structures?
I'm at the blue/ gray house on the hill above the barn south east of the community. I don't loot refresh until I clear entire map. Can get multiple hunts of chickens in a single game day. So I am leaning to a timer based scenario, just don't know the exact timing. Same with the deer over there, though they are less frequent.
I don't think it has anything to do with a timer so to speak. This game is usually triggered by 2 main actions. Restarting the game and going a certain distant away from the area of interest (in this case, where the chickens are).
There may actually be a bit of a timer element, but the two above actions are usually good enough to reset any area.
Ran the west side of Hunting Grounds and south side of the farm near Community again and got 5 birds.
Only takes a few hunts getting 5-6 birds to make a pile of hunting arrows.
I was hoping for two areas I could run/drive back and forth on to farm chickens for feathers. As Geauxboy mentioned, you can just save and reload to respawn the two groups of chickens there.
Agree, my stock of hunting, carbon and explosive arrows is building nicely without having to craft them.
With the compound bow and basic arrow ...
Bandits - 1 shot
Wolves - 2 shots since they run after first hit
Chickens - 1 shot
Deer - 2 shots since they run after first hit
Bears - 5 to 6 shots if they don't run
Zombies - 1 to 2 shots (2 if first is not a head shot)
Haven't tried killing a pig yet.
Haven't tried a Seeker with basic arrows, I usually lure them to a door way and double barrel shoot them which is 5 to 6 shots (they can't get through a standard door). The seekers at the one farm go down with a .50 Cal.
Berserker I used explosive arrows, between 10 to 15.
The other boss I have not attempted killing yet.
