1) remove the bait, eat it, move trap a few feet (don't use the same bait again), wait until next day to rebait ..
2) refresh trap by unbaiting the trap, with out removing bait, then quickly rebait while bait is still in trap .. this may show an animal was already trapped but was glitching (no clipping through bottom)

^yummy yummy eggs?
I've tried some traps too(with some blueberries in it) but all i've catched were mice, rats and rabbits. Did you catch a chicken with the traps and when how have you done it?
have to catch chickens by running after them bare handed (no traps) or shoot them if you just want to eat ..
and yes, eggs are very very yummy ;)

Just a little warning, some computers can not handle all the effects happening in the farm fields so not a good place for some players to chase chickens : (
Hi, my animal traps refuse to work, whatever I try. I followed several times what @NativeOne proposed and much more in different order, without success. I know, it 5 years ago ... I continue to kill a boar every 4 days.
I am in 0.5.2.1
Help please.
