Copper ingot question: possible bug or just a confused player
Hello :)

The wiki says that I should be getting 2 ores for 1 bar with copper but when I put it in the furnace it tells me 8 copper will give me 1 bar.

https://mistsurvival.gamepedia.com/Mining

So far everything else is matches the wiki except for copper

Gold = 8 gold ores for 1 bar
Iron= 4 iron ores for 1 bar
Zinc = 4 zinc ores equals 1 bar

Copper= 8 copper ores for 1 bar

I wonder if I will still get the 2:1 ratio even if it says just 1 bar will be made.

Has anyone else seen this? Does anyone else get a 2:1 ratio melted or is it 8:1 ratio for copper now?

Thanks for any help

(PS. I love this game. I can't seem to get enough of it even though I have died so many times at the hands of bears until I made my bow and arrows...I think they are the scariest thing about this game...my heart starts racing when I hear their gallop...LOL)

The wiki is somewhat out of date. I believe it has been an 8:1 ration for copper ores since the mine was fully implemented.

Also, you should be combining those copper ores with zinc (16 copper, 8 zinc for two brass ingots if I recall correctly) as copper is only needed for two recipes: constructing the reloading bench, and producing components at the forge. Once you have your reloading bench built, you shouldn't need pure copper ingots anymore (it's easier to find components instead of craft them).

You need brass for crafting cartridge casings that are used for making ammunition. Finally, there's no current use for gold ores, at least since the previous update.

As for the bears, give them a wide berth whenever you see one and they will generally leave you alone. If you are chased by one, try running between some close-set trees; the bear will usually stop chasing you as it tends to get stuck. The danger from the bears is also a good reason not to run everywhere--you want to save some stamina just in case Smokey takes an interest in you.

for some reason it changed with the making of brass, with 8 copper, 8 zinc=1bar (ingot) brass instead of mining brass ore by itself ..

mind you i wasn't playing at the time of mining brass ore by itself, instead of melting copper and zinc down together to get it ..

my question for the Dev is this, once you melt an ingot down why can't it be remelted?

if i melt a copper ingot down i can't use it with nothing else as is ..

can't use it with a zinc ingot to make brass either ..

no matter how you do the numbers ..

furnace wont remelt ingots ..

Cool Beans :). Thank you both. I hadn't even thought about remelting them but that would be good too for the couple of copper bars that I have. It might come in the future.

I made the ammo bench so then I should be good with the copper bars. I have trouble finding the components though I haven't been all over the map yet. I have been working on my base and trying to fix up a couple of safe spots with the chicken fence in certain places that I want to explore more.

Plus, I love to go out at night and sometimes get lost/turned around (even with the flashlight on). That is normally how the bears get me now. If I don't panic, then I can shoot them in the head with arrows...LOL

Once you make a sledgehammer, you can break apart the cars that you cannot loot....the white, red, and green cars. You will get tons of components and scrap metal then. Make that sledge as soon as you can

If you are using an existing house as your base (e.g. the white house), you only need chicken fencing over the windows with barricades on them. Infected won't enter through unbarricaded windows.

Another use for chicken fencing is for building a corral or 'shark cage' in front of your base. Make it at least 4 units on each side, and you can jump in there to hunt Infected safely during mist events.

Finally, dismantling static cars (i.e. the cars that you cannot interact with in any way) is a good source of components and metal scraps. Keep in mind that these do not respawn, so use your resources wisely.

You can also use your axe to scrap the cars, you do not have to wait for sledgehammer.

The axe will lose dur the sledg will not so up to you to decide to lose axe dur or wait on the sledg

^Indeed. If you really need more components and metal scraps, using the axe to scrap static cars does work well. However, the axe will lose durability faster when it is used to scrap cars than when it is used to fell trees.
