Is there a map?

Im new to this game and it would really be useful to have a map. The map wouldnt have to show all the areas but just where you have already been...sort of like as you travel around the area, more of the map will appear. Having a map that shows everything all at once would ruin the exploring fun, but it would be nice to show at least where you have been and where your Home is.

I would be happy with a marker showing my base in the world that I could use early game then turn off after I learned the lay of the land better if I wanted. Just a marker I could see when I faced the direction of my base. If I had that, I wouldn't care one way or another about a map per se.
