Hey hope this helps. You actually need to explore and get very lucky and find an Axe.
From there everything others tell you.

Like chop trees for wood, and using a knife to cut a tree for bark.

Leaves and sticks must be scavanged. As well as all food options.

Most dependant food option is chickens at the farms or roaming wild, but that's annoying unless you can get lucky and find enough garbage to make a caveman bow.

I enjoy this game, but i sit between frustrated hatred more than fun.

Seems like the crafting is really shallow atm. Not a whole lot to do. I only played about 2 hours so far and I feel like I've seen just about everything the game has to offer. Found a handgun and about 16 9mm rounds, was able to clear this farmhouse out and then craft a sleeping bag. Found a hammer and an axe, at this point kind of lost on what else I should do?

I can use nails/wood planks to reinforce windows on my base but at this point what else is there? Enjoyed what I played of it but there really needs to be more to it.
