As MrBall indicated above, prioritise treating haemorrhages ASAP. However, if you are bleeding and don't have a bandage, try doing the following:
- Drop all your valuable items (i.e. anything that you care about losing) on a flat surface when your health starts getting low.
- Mark your location by putting up a tall structure (go into the build menu, and click on a lamppost or wooden fence, and place down the blueprint at the location when you dropped your items).
This way, when you do die and revive, you can easily go back to pick up all your stuff at a convenient time. The large green construction beacon will make it easier to find the spot, although be sure to use local landmarks as well!
Of course, the best option is to avoid getting injured in the first place. SWAT armour (helmet and vests) can be found at the top of some water towers (e.g. the pair near the motel usually has some) and will greatly reduce the chance of injury from gunshots and melee attacks. However, the armour does tend to degrade quickly when taking damage.
