I would like to know this as well. I haven't played in 8-10 months and was looking forward to the farming, but instead its just Bandits and snipers everywhere.

At your chosen shelter press b for the shelter build menue then find the clay pot icon to have farming options... you can make bags to hold dirt...to get bags filled with said dirt....have empty bags in inventory and a shovel equiped in hand and click the ground with the shovel to fill the bags... no clue where seeds come from tough....

I found a tomato seed on bandit camp behind the white house where you find Kate(maybe) as well.the camp on the top of mountain. but this camp is huge. there are about 15 bandits. be careful when you go there.

I have found the corn and tomato seeds when rescuing the NPCs, finally got my first crop done, here is what I learned, Corn only grows on the Crop Furrow the one you just need a shovel for and it takes allot of water sometimes more than 1 watering can per plot so suggest you plant near water, you can't use your blue water barrel or anything else to water the crops or fill up watering can. Tomatoes can be planted in any of the planters, crop furrow etc. Each Crop has different stages and they will let you harvest at any stage which sucks, I harvested corn and received an awesome reward of sticks and leaves. Think they have 4 stages of growth but could have missed one. You know when the corn is ready because it will have withered leaves at edges and you will see 1 corn. Tomatoes can be harvested once you see Red and Green tomatoes, I harvested at this stage they could go farther but was impatient so not sure. I received 4 corn and 4 tomatoes for each plant, you then go to the Harvest menu in your inventory and place the vegetables in it and you will receive seeds to replant. Save before you harvest and reload if you didn't get anything. Watering the plants can be a pain too. You water the plot till it changes color if you don't see any change I found that quiting the game and restarting it fixes it. It will be a really wet dark muddy brown color.

Anyone found the carrot seeds, I can't harvest the carrots I find on bandits and didn't see them when rescuing the 3 NPC's

You only need to make 1 sack for dirt, its reusable so you can just fill it up over and over when constructing the big planters, just need a shovel to fill it.

Thx for this report. I count 6 different stages for corn. In last stage the plant is over 3 m and have 3 or 4 corn at plant. Than I harvest and get after 12 days 5 corn and 2 seeds and a plenty of leaves and sticks. Do you can eat the crop without to be sick?

Corn is useless at this point in the game, you can't cook it and if you go thru the trouble of actually babysitting the crop for 10-12 days eating it raw will give you food poisoning and from being totally empty on food it will only fill up the bar to the Letter H on Hunger, really Stupid but still early release, no clue yet about eating tomatoes, will post when I find out. Ionitorka I counted 6 stages as well going to let 1 stay in the ground to see if it dies or goes past 6 stages. Took me 10 days to get to stage 6 for me watering it twice a day.

It's the same with tomatoes ... food poisoning. :steamfacepalm:

I´ve no expierence with tomatos yet, but other here. Maybe only the red tomatos you can eat without food poisoning. The 12 days corn growing was only an test (sleep, watering, sleep, watering - no save, only see what happens with the plant). But if one corn plant need so much water - there is actually NO WAY for my dream of a corn field :)). Only decoration for my base :steammocking:.

I have 3 rows of 10 corn down by a pond just to say I did it, plus not much to do and want the seeds in case they actually do serve a purpose at some point. Kinda messing around with how much I am watering each row to see if it makes a difference as to what color the ground turns.
Restart Oct 26, 2019 @ 10:56pm
you grow the corn to make seeds and the rest is used as chicken feed and just use lake water grows the same
