Da un amante degli strategici/tattici a turni posso dire che certamente non siamo neanche lontanamente ai livelli di XCOM ma le stroncature che ho letto sono eccessive. Le critiche di chi ha giocato meno di 2 ore sono francamente esagerate se non proprio ridicole.

Ho finito il gioco sia giocando la campagna DEA che giocando come NARCOS. Al momento le statistiche globali del gioco su Steam dicono che circa l'1% dei giocatori è arrivato alla fine della storia anche con i NARCOS.

Il meglio di sè questo gioco lo offre in alcune delle missioni principali, ben costruite, che sono ripetibili se uno volesse migliorare i risultati conseguiti nella prima run, magari modificando la composizione della squadra.
Interessante il fatto di giocare alcune delle missioni principali sia dal punto di vista della DEA che dal punto di vista dei NARCOS. Stessa cosa capita in alcune delle missioni secondarie, in cui nella medesima ambientazione si parte da posizioni opposte se giochi come DEA o come NARCOS.

La meccanica di gioco che prevede di poter gestire in ogni turno un solo combattente della propria squadra è inusuale ma dopo un po' ci si adatta e non sembra poi così negativa (volendo proseguire a giocare). Facendo così capita di dover fare delle scelte e ad esempio di abbandonare al proprio destino uno o più elementi della propria squadra, scegliendo di portare avanti quelli che possono sembrare più utili al momento. Inoltre si aggiunge per certi versi una maggiore dinamicità rispetto alle situazioni in cui puoi muovere tutti i componenti della tua squadra. Sono però previste delle skills (che si ottengono con l'avanzamento di livello dei propri combattenti) che nello stesso turno permettono anche ad altri componenti vicini della squadra di fare una mossa (solo alcune sono possibili, ad esempio ricaricare, curarsi o spostarsi, NON è possibile sparare/attaccare).

Il livello base di difficoltà non è modificabile ma in realtà nelle missioni secondarie il livello uno se lo può scegliere, se vuole provare qualche brivido in più, perchè appunto si può scegliere tra missioni facili (1 teschio), di media difficoltà (2 teschi) o difficili (3 teschi). Non si può scegliere il livello di difficoltà delle missioni principali che però sono sempre più impegnative man mano che si avanza nel gioco, di pari passo con la crescita del proprio team.
In generale il livello medio di difficoltà del gioco non è elevato, per gli esperti del genere, ma in particolare alcune missioni in cui si ha a disposizione un numero limitato di mosse per concludere possono risultare impegnative per chiunque.
Mai però mi sono trovato neanche lontanamente col rischio di fallire complessivamente, i soldi si guadagnano copiosi missione dopo missione, così come si guadagnano facilmente i punti per far avanzare di livello gli elementi del proprio team, inoltre avere un numero di componenti del team elevato è del tutto inutile.
La profondità delle scelte strategiche che si devono fare ad esempio in XCOM non è nemmeno lontanamente paragonabile.
Anzi NARCOS sotto questo profilo NON è uno strategico, non ci sono scelte da fare se non scegliere le missioni secondarie e la relativa difficoltà, scegliere quali tipologie di combattenti reclutare e scegliere la composizione delle squadre missione dopo missione.
E' definibile quindi come un gioco tattico a turni. Di strategia qui c'è poco o niente.

Io preferisco normalmente uno stile prevalentemente difensivo e con colpitori dalla lunga distanza, uno stile che si adatta piuttosto bene a questo gioco, anche se è possibile giocare in modo più movimentato scegliendo tipologie di combattenti che eccellano a breve e medio raggio e in grado di coprire in un solo turno lunghe distanze.
C'è una tipologia di combattenti che risulta molto più importante di altre: i demolitori possono infatti sparare bombe a lunghe distanze ed è possibile portare a termine una singola missione muovendo sempre e solo uno di questi combattenti, in grado anche di sopravvivere molto più a lungo perchè hanno molti più punti salute. Questo sbilanciamento di questo tipo di specialista nelle missioni più semplici può portare ad annoiarsi, anche perchè in questi casi l'IA del nemico mostra una certa stupidità, ovvero i combattenti nemici stanno fermi a prendersi le bombe, anche se possono rigenerare un punto di salute per turno morire per loro è solo una questione di tempo. Diciamo che questo è il maggior punto critico nelle dinamiche di gioco, è la strada semplificata per vincere certe missioni secondarie, ma se poi uno si annoia a giocare in tale modo può provare ad utilizzare altre tipologie di combattenti o scegliere missioni secondarie di difficoltà maggiore.
Ci sono però ambientazioni al chiuso dove i demolitori da certe posizioni (ad esempio dai piani rialzati o in spazi stretti) non possono lanciare le bombe, così come altre missioni dove gli stessi demolitori non possono proseguire perchè non riescono a superare certi ostacoli naturali (attraversare ruscelli, salire in alcune posizioni più alte) e in quei casi sono più efficaci altre tipologie di combattenti.
Mi è comunque capitato diverse volte di non riuscire a concludere una missione (in particolare quelle con un numero limitato di turni), certamente personalmente ho avuto più morti nei miei team giocando a NARCOS che non a XCOM.
E' da prevedere un maggior numero di morti della propria squadra giocando coi NARCOS.

Interessanti ed innovative sono sia la modalità di guardia in cui devi mirare per colpire, così come la modalità killshot che si può utilizzare quando hai ridotto quasi in fin di vita un combattente nemico.

Buona in generale la grafica così come le cut scenes, realizzate ad un buon livello, e che riprendono la serie televisiva.

In definitiva mi sento di consigliare questo gioco certamente agli amanti del genere (come detto è un tattico a turni), è comunque un'esperienza che può risultare divertente, nonostante certe anomalie e criticità. Se ci sarà un seguito di pari passo con la serie televisiva probabilmente il gioco verrà migliorato ugualmente.

Un gioco davvero carino, le missioni alla lunga sono un po' ripetitive ma comunque divertenti da rigiocare, mi sono divertito molto anche se solitamente questo genere di giochi lo trovo noioso

Interessante come idea ma ancora da sviluppare. Poco fluido dovendo muovere un personaggio alla volta. Più che discreto nel complesso con ampi margini di miglioramento.... speriamo.

First things first: I've got this game for 1$, and I would have been feeling ripped off if I'd paid more than 2$. It's just the question of price and your desire to play mediocre, sub-level games when we have so many good ones on the plate. Narcos: Rise of Cartels is cheap-made. It is underfunded and underdeveloped.

Get me right: Narcos: Rise of Cartels is certainly not the worst game that I've played, even (especially) if we take tactical squad-controlling games in the "XCom wannabe" sub-sub-genre. You know, that idea of one shot and one movement per turn, and all that jazz? Well, the worst game in that specific subjective list would be "Arma Tactics", but even that game wasn't All Bad, okay?

On the one hand, we've got good visuals, fine music and video inserts from Netflix show. There are two campaigns, for the police forces and for Narcos cartel, two sides of a coin, two opposing views of reality. If you're familiar with the show, maybe you'll find it peculiar to move into fights not just some random Spaniards with generic names, but control (or shoot) Steve Murphy or his evil twin from the other side of law Primo.

We've got the decent level design, with some interesting feature of moving units between roofs with the jump, which makes some of the levels even more vertical-structured than we usually have in such games. I haven't seen too many glitches, and none of them was game-breaking.

On the other hand, there is a big downside - right in the level design. You see, the game is Too Short in terms of different maps. There are main levels, with the bigger maps, more game goals, and a bit more intense gameplay. But there are only a dozen of them, for both campaigns. In order to "open" the next story mission, the player should play more generic missions - and it is one of the worst sides of that game. You see, there are too little different maps for those generic missions, and in order to complete the game, the player should play the very same maps maybe 5 times each. Believe me, that issue is much more severe than in the first XCom before the patches.

Another strange game design choice was to set the order of turns just by "one by one". It means that one specific unit can do all the moves, while all other will be static all the way. And it sounds like that sad joke: "Hey, Mario, I've heard you serve grouse meat in your restaurant! But this is very expensive! How do you manage to get so much game?"
"It's simple! When there is not enough grouse meat, I mix it with horse meat! Fair proportion: one horse - one hazel grouse!"

Yeah, really, it's a squad-controlling turn-based game where you don't really need a squad! Just one champion with proper perks which give you additional movement and/or action points, and cone spread shots (shotgun or SMG) - and you will do fine in the 90% of missions! Add that strange "healing" feature, when you can restore your health with just paying for it with your movement points...

Well, in general, Narcos: Rise of Cartels plays very weirdly. There are too many over-the-head generic parts, and it makes the taste from the game Very Cheap, like some soy burger. On the other hand, there are some original features for the sub-genre that I actually enjoyed, like that player-controlled shooting.

If you're not a big fan of tactical games, I guess it's not the game you'll like. It's very mediocre, like 5.8/10 mark. So, as I have said from the start, don't pay for it more than dollar or two. And don't expect much of the game, even if you a Netflix Narcos show fan. It's just not all that bad, as many other reviewers wrote. Plain mediocre, in-between game title.

PS: If you decide to play it for achievements, don't bother to restart the game, if you fail some secondary mission. You'll get the chance to redo it all after you finish the campaign.

After playing this game for a few hours, I'm really trying to understand why it has so many negative reviews. I see that a lot of people complain about the "one unit move per turn" mechanic, but to be honest, that's what makes this game challenging. It determines you to really plan your strategy and think twice about your next move, not just go commando style heads forward into battle. In my opinion, this feature should definitely be considered a plus to the game. Also, I like the constant struggle of keeping your squad alive, because once your men are killed, they stay dead and you need to spend a lot of hard earned cash to recruit new ones and upgrade their skills from scratch. This is also part of the challenge to use your head and tactics instead of jumping from tile to tile and randomly pressing buttons. Overall, I'm really enjoying this game and would recommend it to anyone who's a fan of turn-based strategy games, and of course, of the Netflix show.

Narcos: Rise of the Cartels is a turn-based DEA vs. Cartel tactical game(Yes, there is a campaign for both sides), based on the Netflix TV-show; NARCOS. The game even have some live action cut-scenes from the TV-show(besides regular CGI cut-scenes), and will most certainly be a joy for fans of the Narcos series.

The game took me a bit by surprise, and is actually hard to put down when you first get into it. Yet, it can also easily be played for just 30 minutes - 1 hour segments for shorter play sessions.

As you are moving through the story there are side-quests you need to choose from and do before progression to the next story level is available. These side quest(while still being regular turn-based DEA vs. Cartel) differs in objectives from "Assassination of a target", "Planting of a device", "Rescuing a VIP", "Escorting a VIP", "Obtain Intel" etc. and makes the side questing fun. They are also usually shorter, about 20 - 30 minutes, making it a easy game to pick up and play for a short while if you need a distraction, but are not able to play for hours at the time.

You earn money and Skill Points from your missions and side quests(different amount for different quest) that you use to level up your team members and recruit new ones. Leveling up a character gives him new abilities like "One extra bullet in the gun", "One extra action point on kill", "Gain 3 more movement, but lose 2 health" etc. You easily get attached to your crew members and it feel bad when a team member is killed and you know you have lost all the Skill Points you spent time getting and leveling the character. I wish there was a way to name your character for further "connection" to the character, but at this time that is not possible.

I have seen people complain about the fact that you are only able to move/use action for one character per round(DEA/Cartel), but I find myself being more tactical of my choices with this feature, both when moving character on the battlefield, but also when leveling up a team member.

I have to say that this is not as challenging or "big" as XCOM or Phoenix Point, so do not go into this game expecting a challenge like that. But, it is still a good and entertaining tactical turn-based game, and perfect for someone that think Phoenix Point and/or XCOM can be a bit too much.

If you are a fan of the turn-based tactical genre I recommend wishlisting this game, and check out some non-commentary gameplay to get your own impression of the game.

Never seen the show.After watching the trailers and the fact its a turn based interested me,so onto reviews as i've bought some poor (x rated language probably not allowed) games in the past,realising reviews were bang on the mark.Because most of the negatives with this game where to do with only being able to move one character at a time i thought i'd give it a go,more of a challenge.You have to think more,and make sure each character covers one another,or your team won't last long.Glad i took a chance on this game.

I've held off getting this game for a long time simply due to the number of bad reviews and man am I pissed at every one of you leaving a bad review! ;)

This game is amazingly fun! The counter attack and kill shot features are pure genius and add so much to a turned based shooter. I honestly do not understand the complaints regarding moving a single player at a time, this to me is a great feature and adds a lot of strategy to the game. The unit upgrades are pretty sweet as well.

There are a lot of details in this game that I haven't seen in other TBS like wounded bad guys limping away bleeding and dropping their weapons when killed. This just adds to the games immersiveness. And the story is great of course, so if you liked the show, you'll love this game!

If you're on the fence, pick it up on sale for sure and you will not be disappointed ... unless you just completely suck at planning out strategy and maximizing your squad (which I assume is the issue with the negative reviewers). ;)
