How in the flying **** is Ghost Town Challenge even possible?

Update: I've since beaten this challenge, and no longer require advice. I mention and go into more detail on this in one of my replies, but I managed to unlock this dispite dooming out in the lighthouse if one can believe that (and that somehow makes any sense).

Original Post: I keep trying to do this stupid challenge over and over again for the past few days, but I'm lucky if I even get to the finish line before the game decides to be like "**** you, you're dead". This challenge is supposed to be on cultists (or at least that's what the challenge description says) so I'm suppose to have 17 STA and 17 (or 18) REA, but it gives me 13 and 14 respectively like I'm on True Believer. I'm mostly attempting this on PS4, but this also concerns the PC players as well (plus I figured I'd get answers here anyway).

I've not completed any challenges yet, but I'd imagine beating it involves rerolling mysteries until you have the perfect assortment of non-boss mysteries and guarenteed items out of those mysteries. For example, Ramen has no boss and is a gimme. Household Horror, Mermaids, and Botanist have bosses, but fighting them isn't required to complete the mystery. No shops means you have more Doom to play around with than normal, so don't be shy about running from encounters that threaten a lot of damage.

@Silyon I actually haven't thought to just leave the shops alone and just run for my life. Might try that later. I obviously wouldn't be able to do that with the spider god in play though. Also, running away too offen results in a game over by doom, but that should go without saying.

To be fair, it seems bugged on PS, you can add services like shops just fine. If it's also bugged and on a harder mode than it should be, I guess that makes it even.

I won by using the small candle (excellent weapon, also helps with running away), a camera, a compass and scumming mysteries. Anything that helps with Reason is a plus, since you're guaranteed to lose 10 just from mysteries.

Levelling isn't that big of a priority, since her unique perks suck without allies.

That guide that explains what the lighthouse trials will be is also a lifesaver.

The event that lets you get a "Shocking Tattoo" is excellent. Use the yakuza discount to buy Reason meds from the pharmacy.

@Garamoth if what you say about adding places to visit during the challenge being a bug is true (on PS at least), then that's news to me. Also, due to the random nature of the game in general, your build is impossible to get unless you get lucky (which I'm assuming is the case for you). Congrats on beating this challenge BTW.

But yeah, I did get lucky but I tried a bunch of times. You could do okay with less. Mizuki could do even better with a DEX or PER weapon. Ritual Dagger is pretty good too, as is the mask that prevents REA loss.

I lost that challenge once by getting 100% literally at the final lighthouse step. I bet you regret getting that shop reroll that ended up being useless anyway Garamoth, huh?

@Garamoth I think I might make use of Silyon's suggestion, do no shops as dev intended and hope for the best (unless the spider god shows up, then I'll have to figure something else out). I'm on break because that challenge was driving me crazy to put it lightly, but when I get on my PS4, wish me luck.

Edit: That being said, I have been using the lighthouse guide that was on here, but thanks for pointing me in that direction.

Well, my save file deleted itself, so I can't go back and do this challenge unless I unlock everything again. I've read about that bug happening, and this is the 2nd time I was hit with it. How the **** this game released in that bug I have no idea, especially since it wasn't an issue while the game was in Early Access on PC. I do like the game (especially considering that this is a horror game as the name implies) but **** my life.

That is incredibly unfortunate. Does PS4 have cloud-baised saves? It might just be having a connection issue. That'd be the hope at least.

@Silyon My saves are not tied to the cloud as far as I know. I'm not sure what the issue is (besides it being a bug, but that's obvious), but leaving my PS4 in rest mode doesn't seem to trigger this glitch (as long as you check the box that says leave the game suspended), so I that's just what I'll have to do on there. I don't know what I'm going to do if it happens here on PC.

If you get the festival mystery, you can use its shop. Try to get mysteries without mandatory bosses. I ran from almost everything my winning run. I didn't get it, but a lucky start with the library notes giving invisibility spell would help a lot, and then you could just reroll mysteries until you guarantee yourself no combat.

All the save and exit buttons wipe your save file on PS4 as of right now.

Make a backup after every session.

@Garamoth I'm worried that if I were to do that my save will wipe itself anyway. If that happens, and my save gets wiped again and tried to reload my save and that got wiped, I'll have to start over anyway. Besides, I've canceled my PS+ Sub (I'm good until the end of January next year), and I don't have anything else to back up my save with, so yeah.

Okay, I got back to the point where I could do this challenge again. I made it to the lighthouse again, but I ended up losing again (I had a lot going for me but I guessed wrong on the 2nd combat encounter and a doom enemy ultimately got me (I was lucky enough to find a weapon, but it didn't matter). However, I got the trophy for beating the Ghost Town Challenge. When I checked my in-game achievements, it's unlocked as well. A very strange bug if anyone asks me, but I'm not complaining, I've had more then enough of this challenge. I was doing Silyon's strategy if it matters. Thanks for all the advice.

Edit 2: When I was using an app on my phone to track my lighthouse stuff, I noticed that my 2nd encounter and the fight were the last 2 I had to do to win in that order. When I beat the fight, the game must have counted that as a win dispite my doom being maxed out. Again, I'm not complaining, I was like "Wait, What!? There's no way I should've gotten that!" I just glad to be finally done with the knowledge that if my save wipes again, I won't have to do it again unless it's on PC (and possibly the Switch). Once again, thanks for the advice everyone.

You can always get lucky and get the non-human allies. Hermit, Dog, Attack Dog, and.... Dog...?!
