If you dont want it, play the customized mode where you can choose a backstory yourself.
Personally I see them more as a tradeoff than purely a debuff, but med history definitely is one of the more situational ones to where in most cases with quick play it ends up just being bad. It’s useful on characters who already are pretty bad with melee combat and can use that little boost to xp to get the ball rolling with early mysteries not focused on combat and pursue some work arounds. On quick play though, yea it’s usually just an injury generator lol.
The medical history background mainly comes down to how many times you get hurt in combat, so if you wanna just dash through this background to unlock others, use a strong character like Aiko who has high dex and use dodge a lot (fast combat actions are also very good).
With backstories I don't like I typically just dash through them on custom mode with skeptic level Aiko cause it's much easier to deal with.
my point is that I thought the game was a narrative RPG not an rpg with just some choices thrown into it which usually don't even matter at all
