Any way to save mid investigation?

I tried to exit the game and got a game over... Is there a way to save and quit without losing that I missed?

When you finish one of the investigations and are on the screen to watch TV, take a bath, etc., you can save and exit with the bottom-center options. Other than that, there is no saving.

Also, if you are being followed by something truly evil, or if you are in challenge mode, there is no saving at all.
