Perhaps this is not relevant to your headset.
I just happened to try another fix from another thread, and that also seemed to work (not 100% confirmed, but seemed to). That fix was to disable SPDIF/Digital output on that same screen (Playback devices tab of Sound control panel app). Again, may not be something you see with your setup.
So setting to 5.1 and then back 7.1 what it was before somehow fixed the issue. Do you know how this managed to fix the issue?
That said, I do not use USB headphones, which seem to suffer worst from the bug. Maybe it is impossible to fix 100% on those.
