Is this game like Borderlands with zombies?

I'm not saying that Borderlands is a bad game but it's not the kind of game for me. Anyway, is it very similar to Borderlands? I heard that this game is an open world zombie survival game with skill tree and stuffs like that but after everything I've seen so far, it just seems bland to me, I was expecting something like DayZ.

Was going to buy this game but everything about this game just keep getting less and less interesting, can someone convince me otherwise?

I love Borderlands, but I think Dead Island is actually more enjoyable. It is a vastly different game, at least that is my personal opinion. While it is this cheap (and if you have the $5) go ahead and give it a try. I am hoping you will be pleasantly surprised.

PS - I have played the game for many many MANY hours on Xbox, in case you look at my non-existent play time on PC and think I'm just blowing smoke.

Think Borderlands + L4D2 + Dead Rising + The Walking Dead. It is an open world co-op zombie survival game with skill trees. IMO, it's worth at least $5.

borderlands is great game and one of the most enjoyable ones i've played. but i would not compare it to dead island. also the walking dead (also one of the most interesting games i've played) game has nothing to do with this one, except zombies. same goes for l4d2 and dead rising. i do not care about some "reviewers" comparing dead island to mix of those games (i love all those games though), for me it is something different. my experience with dead island is more like far cry 3 with zombie apocalypse going on, and with greater focus on melee combat and weapons.
i absolutley love dead island. it has every classic thing ment for zombie apocalypse.

basically it is open world first person zombie apocalypse role playing survival on tropical island. you help other survivors and their groups, through main and side missions, fight zombies, explore tropical island, drive cars, upgrade/buy weapons, level your character... great adventure and experience, one of the best in video gaming. great thing is co-op, if you have friends to play with, go co-op right away.
