Anybody else finding this a little... dull?
I've got about 5 hours into the game... still on act 2. But when that dude in the lighthouse tower sent me into the bungalows (again) to find food, I nearly died. I've been looking for necklaces and teddy bears in there, fighting big zombies, looking for booze, etc etc. Slaughtering zombies is great fun, especially with the wrench... I love watching their heads explode. And the island locale is beautiful. But it's not enough.

I feel like I'm doing the same fetch quest over and over and over again. And the zombies really don't put up much of a fight. The NPCs are unremarkable. It's open world, but I haven't found much worth exploring yet.

Does this game pick up? Or is it more of the same all the way through? I'm looking for some story (such as what happened and why?), some exciting combat that requires more than just left mouse bashing, some challenging multi-part quests, a new locale, something?

Or is it time to cut bait?

Thanks!

the resort is kinda dull- but things pick up once you head off to the big city and eventully the jungle. Also- co-op. Makes the game much more interesting having another person with you.

I found it dull a lot sooner that you. Shame, really. I am curious if anyone comes in saying it gets better though. Everyone I see who likes it just praises it like a shill without specifying why exactly it is a good game.

i know this isn't everyone's cup of tea, but what i enjoy about this game is mainly the multiplayer aspect of the game, playing with my friends is a blast.

i like that there are different characters with different styles of gameplay (blunt, throwing, sharp, firearm).

i like how you can build your character how you like to fit your playstyle. having 4 players playing different classes also gives a sense of teamwork, everyone has role.

i also find some of the animations very comedic

the scenery of the island is beautiful, and is a welcome change to games featured in a post apocalyptic environment.

trying out different ways of killing enemies is also fun, blowing up zombies with gas canisters, slicing thier heads off with one swing, smacking them to death with a frying pan. running them over with vehicles ^_^

the quests are a bit dull, and some of them don't even make any sense, such as the necklace one,if you where stranded on an island full of zombies a necklace would be the least of your worries.

also i do agree that the zombies are really big push overs, once you find out thier weakness it really is quite easy to take them down (though i have not come across a butcher yet). i do like however ever having to keep an eye out on your flank incase zombies swarm you from your blind sides.

i sort of wished the zombies where a bit more agile and more threatening, but overall it is good fun, like borderlands it is great multiplayer but not so good single player.

Yeah, the quests aren't the most incredible around - I mean, there are so many things you can implement as far as questing goes in "RPG" games - and since this is a FPS-GOREEMUP-RPG style game, you're bound to get dull fetch quests. I've made it to the city of Moresby and the game does pick up from there. You get more than just one or two zombies together - you get several grouped together - the sewers aren't all that threatning, but it's not the ideal place to fight in. The AI may be sub-par, but it's easy to get overwhelmed if you're not careful. The jungle is not pretty from what I saw - Butchers do look like a challenge, but still...

If you want a challenge, there are people that created mods for this - where they changed the amount of zombies per encounter and their speed; agility; health and damage - you should check that out if you get bored with the original zombies. I can say, the Dawn of the Dead mod - is insane...ly fun!

Anyways - like most stories about zombies, it's never all that "difficult" to figure out and the plot twists are always somewhat predictable - I mean, how many movies have been done over the past decade? How many of these had very distinct storylines and reasons as to why and how it happened? Not many. Whatever it is - it's always going to look like other games or movies - there's only so many variations you can come up with when talking about a zombie apocalypse.

However, being in an island paradise, does make it ironically interesting and refreshing. Graphics are nice, gameplay may be odd at times, controls may be sluggish - but the gore... killing zombies is very freaking fun in this game. Get the Heavy Duty Mod and a Metal Kanabo... and watch them zombies go WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! SPLAAAAT! Can't get any better than that! LOL

this game needs a day/night cicle
fooling around the island , solo or coop is really fun , if you get bored of quests, go insane , gather zombies , set them on fire, prepare traps with more than one car and then drive over a pile of zombiens, soooo many things to do with a little imagination!

Yeah, the whole...rinse-lather-repeat...thing is getting rather old as well. I loved the scenery though but as I perfer "simulation" over "arcade", I would like to see more realistic stuff at times and the killing is nice but gets a little old. Plus it is funny to see all the NPCs whine and complain but are too lazy to get off their own butts and help themselves, I am sure in a group they would be fine.

But then again, this is a CONSOLE game and not originally for PC so it should have been expected.

Well... I'm a little further into the game... now in the city. It has picked up, as a couple of you said it would. The quests are still kinda dull, the NPCs not terribly interesting, but the combat is much more fun.

Think I'll stick with it a little longer. Is there a plot in here, though?

Yeah, the guys with the guns picked up the flow quite a bit and I am really enjoying this game. In fact since I am playing with mostly knives and swords, I am going to use the asian chick next but I do see as I said before what people are talking about.

Right now though, I am in the sewer part. I am not sure if I can go back to the slums or not as I am not sure if this is it for that but I am for sure outside of the beaches at the start.

Side note, would it have killed the creators to add a fat girl or even a kid...does everyone but the extremely rare fat guy have to be a model type?

Plot...I still haven't really seen one yet either, and even HOW the infection happened hasn't came out yet. And I am quite a bit further than you too.

Will do, the only other character I was interested in playing was the asian sword user but I want to save her for my fiance. To be honest, I care nothing for the other two so I am with you on trying the DLC character that I got with the game.

i would advise you to get a zombie in the water and knock them over. hearing them drowning is the funiest thing ever. Also playing this game baked is a lot of fun

Yeah, it is among the easiest way to kill them. Sadly I think the game won't let you swim as nothing is really deep enough to drown yourself in.

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ I have drowned in the game I did it on purpose lol
