Screen Tear and Micro Stuttering
Hi. Good day guys!
I just want to ask, is there a permanent fix for Screen-Tear and Micro Stuttering?
Everytime I run Dead Island, I have to manually set the Keyboard Filter Keys and add VSync on the Settings.scr, which is very very...very annoying.

I'm using PC version and here's my PC spec :
CPU : AMD 1090T
GPU : Sapphire HD7850 2GB
RAM : OCZ 4GB Platinum
HDD : WDD 1Tb Black
PSU : HEC 700w Bronze
MoBo : Asus 890GX

Is there a permanent fix for Screen-Tear and Micro Stuttering?

I had the issue with screen tearing when I first launched the game, but enabled V-Sync, quit and restarted the game, and then the setting took effect.

You will have to run the engine in windowed mode for maximum performance. Fullscreen will offer VSYNC to eliminate tearing but sufferes from serious performance issues. The micro stutter can be minimized with Dead Island Helper and a gamepad. The tearing in Dead Island is brutal I know. It's what I like to call dirty rendering. The tearing is also present on the console version. One of the elements I was hoping to improve on by purchasing the PC version. However it's a port of the console version and thus your milage will vary. I spent around 2 hours tweaking the engine before I just said ♥♥♥♥ it. I may aswell just play it on XBOX.

use an fps limiter(msi afterburner) to fix micro stutter from overrendering, ie a 59fps cap. use d3doverrider to force vsync at all times, even after having alt tabbed back into the game.

Download and use this. My game had terrible Micro-stutter and other problems but this fixed it and I ended up logging 75 + hours in to this game running this little awesome tool. You run it, log your location to DI and then set it all up via this tool and it just sits in your task bar. You can also just click 'play Dead Island' off that. It really is worth using...

Play with it and then disable it and play without it. You'll notice a huge difference.

^ thread if you're 'worried' about it.

I hate to resurrect an old thread, but I am experiencing issues with the screen tearing on my PC. I am not getting the micro stuttering that others have, but the screen tearing can get annoying. I went the PC route to try and avoid some of the goofy console bugs. Any recommendations would be helpful.

My System:
ASRock Z77
i5 2500K @ 3.3 GHz
EVGA Gtx 560 2GB OC Edition (non TI)
Corsair 8 GB DDR3 @ 1600 MHz
Coolermaster 550W PSU

Use Adaptive vSync in the NVIDIA Control panel and turn in-game vSync off - should help with the tears. Are you using a HDTV for a monitor?

Yes, I'm using a 50 inch plasma that my PC is hooked up to for gaming.

I will try this tonight and see how it works.

Thanks

Welcome. I use a 32" LG HDTV and needed to do that otherwise the tearing was insufferable. Hopefully it works for you.

I used adaptive v-sync and I think its fixed the issue but not 100% sure. The only time I would notice screen tearing is when swinging a weapon so now I'm not even sure if it is screen tearing. Is that when you noticed it too?

Very, very slightly yes. You can also try to limit the FPS of the game using something like MSI Afterburner, and try slowly lowering the FPS until it disappears. I am probably more used to it now than anything else, so it doesn't really bother me anymore.

i'm not sure if it's this micro stuttering people speak of but i get movement like high latency lag in game AND while watching the startup video's. i tried messing with the dead island helper and manually switching filter keys but no difference.

it happens on both gamepad and KBM but it wasn't happening when i was playing for several hours yesterday. at this point i'm rebooting to see if it fixes it. the game is unplayable in its current state. i'm averaging 110FPS. i could live with tearing. but this hiccups in the flow of movement is not usable

edit: restart fixed the issue, have since decided i'm not a fan of the overcast option in the opening area of the game. the blue skies just dont suit it. still the stuttering isn't all down to the filterkeys it seems
