What's the point of enemy level scaling?
I've been reading a bit of people's opinion. Most say that level scaling keeps the game challenge throughout the game, or else we'll be one-hit killing evey enemy at the end of the game.

But, I still don't understand. If that's the case, why not just drop the whole level thing at all, like every other non-RPG game? I mean, isn't the idea of leveling up about "getting stronger" at the first place?

They can drop the leveling mechanics, or offer much smaller advantage gained through leveling up, for example, +1% damage instead of +5% damage for a skill point.

I find it very awkward to level up without getting stronger. The two idea just don't fit in my opinion. What do you guys think? Would't it be better to just drop the leveling mechanics?

health is increased and the damage also
nik thats what he means, if damage is increased the zombie health is increased and if your health is increased then, so is the zombie attack power....so it doesnt really get easy or hard, and you just get a level number saying youre level 40 or 50 or 2, gameplay doesnt really change much though..

Leveling up gives you a scence of achievement

Yep is axactly why ive stopped playing, am at 43 and still dead wiv only 3 hits from a thug and am Sam B. Seems it was a complete waste getting the damage resist boosts as they were immediatly nullified and my attacks do roughly same damage to a zombie as they allways have. In fact the only thing i seem to have got thats noticable from levelling, is regen and weapon durability. Its a real pain cos i love everything else about the game, and yet if level scaling is in the next one am afraid i will be giving it a firm miss as i cant stand a game wiv no payout for levelling at all.

Sorry except the affore mentioned sense of achievment lol :)

So what you are saying is, you're not going to play a fantastically fun game which you enjoy because of one redundant factor? I understand how it is a pain to play in a game where leveling means nothing in the long run, but if it's a good game then why stop playing it for the one bad aspect it may have. Some people actually enjoy having phantom levels, and for those that don't: well at least they still have a kick ass action-packed zombie shoot/slice'em'up.

The truth is that level scaling makes exploring, questing and doing anything extra pointless. The less you do quests and kill zombies, the easier the game is.

because all other rpgs let you fight level 1 enemies all the way throug</sarcasm>.

Then take them or leave them based on the difficulty you want posed to the game. ^^; It's really not that huge of a deal is all I'm saying.

The point of enemy scaling is if you are level 50 for example and you have enemy scaling turned on and then you go and join someones game and the person you have joined is say level 10 the enemies will scale to your level because if they were level 10 where is the challenge hence the name enemy level scaling ,,nothing more nothing less..........just try it and see

guild wars 2 does something somewhat similar and honestly, sometimes I just want to go on a killing spree. It's a great idea and it keeps things from getting boring, but a little hosting power to be able to turn it off or on would make everyone happy. At least we have talent trees to use so leveling isn't entirely pointless.

Do not level your weapons then, problme solved and good luck with that. Game is awesome.
