as windows / dead island would now be out putting to the Stereo Virtual Audio Cable and not using the logitech G930 driver avoiding all wireless and 7.1 problems.
make sure you set your default sound output in windows to your virtual audio cable, I have a feeling that you may have forgoten that step.
I will reinstall DI myself and give it ago maybe this weekend and see if i can get VAC to play ball with my Logitech G930 / Corsair Vengence 2100 / Razor Tiamat 7.1
all of wich are know to have problems with Dead Island and its not a USB problem as the Tiamat are anologue and are also true 7.1 not fake / virtual like the others.
Weldone Max your post has been added to the OP as 100% working workaround for all sound devices.
I have tested this workaround with
Logitech G930
Corsair Vengence 2100
Logitech Tiamat 7.1
Thanks again Max i can now enjoy my DI game once again :D
Thank you for this amazing fix.
Have you tried the Virtual Audio Cable workaround ?
It is about 5 posts above yours and this does actualy work no matter your sound card or headset.
Surely those headsets can be set to stereo in the Windows playback device configuration.
- Right-click on the speaker icon in the systray (bottom-right near the time)
- Select "Playback devices"
- Set your headset as the default playback device
- Right-click on the headset in the list and select "Configure Speakers"
- Select stereo or 5.1 if possible (set it back to 7.1 when you're done playing DI)
I've never used used a USB headset but surely when you open the Windows sound device windows there's something like a 'Logitech Wireless Headset' in there that you can configure and choose a different speaker configuration for.
I really don't know anything about 7.1 USB headsets, does the Logitech software force Windows to be set to 7.1? When configuring the device in Windows, are there no other output options? Can someone take a screenshot of the 'speaker configuration' for a USB 7.1 headset?
EDIT:
Searched and found this:
http://forums.logitech.com/t5/Headphones-Headsets-Microphones/An-explaination-of-why-the-G930-has-some-problems-and-what-needs/td-p/658924
Ahhh crap, yeah, you G930 guys are screwed. LOL VAC looks like your only option to force DI to output in stereo. Any decent sound device would have stereo and 5.1 options.
For the sake of compatibility, Logitech should have allowed that headset to be configured to stereo and 5.1 as well. Man, that's dumb. Has Logitech not released any driver or firmware update for that headset?
The problem is the game it self, It also raised its head in DI Riptide but techland fixed it quickly.
shame they didnt feel the need to do the right thing and support thier previous title.
Shame they didnt do thier job's properly in the 1st place and copied the same bug from the 1st game to the 2nd just goes to show how competant they are.
Also the the G930 and G35 actualy do have a switch to turn off 7.1 and go back to 2.0, unfortunatly the game still doesnt work correctly thou still not Logitech's fault.
your bashing the wrong guys head over to the techland forums and ask them to support thier products.
I agree that it's completely Techland's fault and that they should correct the issue since they fixed it in Riptide, but Logitech put too much faith in software developers. I can understand that from Logitech's standpoint, forcing their headset to have only a 7.1 option in the Windows speaker configuration reduces any possibility of misconfiguration, but having no fallback in the event of a compatibility issue seems a little shortsighted; then again, DI is probably the only game with an audio problem linked to 7.1 output so I can't really dislike Logitech for this one-off problem.
and I agree a little short sighted on thier behalf.
this is probably why I didnt buy another set after mine craped out.
This is a great workaround also if still crackling. First go here if you do not have Stereo Mix installed under recording devices https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KmzfJWVH6T8
Once Stereo Mix is installed go here to configure your surround sound device to play crackle free for surround bugged games
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Nl9Taspvtc
**Rem if Stereo Mix is missing google your sound driver model with enable stereo mix and find instructions.
Example to enable stereo mix with SoundMax driver - Look for the ADIHdAud.inf file, mine was located SoundMAX2000B_Audio_V610X6585_Windows7\i386\Vista the ATi_64 one is in a seperate folder
then change
HKR,AD1986\\Disable, "OutR", 1, 01 ; Disable Stereo Mixer
to
HKR,AD1986\\Disable, "OutR", 1, 00 ; Enable Stereo Mixer
It's listed twice so search and change twice.
(I dont have the game installed and prolly wont have the time to test for a bit).
