Unable to change resolution

when i go to the Video Options menu, im unable to change my resolution. the laptop im using has a 4K display, but i dont want to run it at that kind of resolution since its so high, more like 1080p. the "Resolution" option is blank with dark-gray arrows

does anyone know a solution to change the in-game resolution? my FPS constantly drops to like 15 or 20 frequently because of the 4 K display

Have you try configuring the resolution through the video file?
Should be in c:\...\Documents\DeadIsland\out\Settings\Video.scr

Drag the video.scr to notepad for it to open then edit your settings.
Change the value to something like Resolution(1920,1080). Also might want to set the file to read only so it doesn't revert to default.

ive read through that Pinned forum about all the issues and solutions, and i am aware of the Notepad fix, but i searched through that exact same address, but i couldnt find a Video.vcr file while searching through Notepad's Open option. even copy/pasting the address didnt work, as it said that it wasnt valid. i just recently uninstalled it but may reinstall later. i dont feel like bothering with it right now since i need a new hard drive and manually fixing a PC game by modifying the fies is such a pain in the ass

Go to folder as where the game is installed and edit this file with text editor:

Dead Island - Game of the Year Edition/DI/out/Settings/Video.src

Find:
Resolution(1386,640)
