Sprint does not work.
The sprint button does not work at all, I'm currently at the hotel tutorial area.

Things I've tried,
My stamina is full
Tried both windowed and full screen
Tried pressing esc / window key
Tried alt tabbing out and back in
Tried setting -high and high priority in task manager
Tried rebinding the sprint key, also tried it on controller
Disabled and enabled V-sync and tried 60hz, 100hz lock
Reinstalled and verified files

Any advice is appreciated, none of the fixes I've found online have worked.

The only problem I had with sprinting was the sprint/ram key was the same as the kick/stomp key, so rebinding them both to different keys helped. Remember to click Confirm at the end when making key binding changes or else they don't change. (It's on the screen after the key bindings, when you go back a page it says CONFIRM in the bottom right).

Make sure to rebind the sprint key to a key not in use by anything else.

Also, to sprint you have to HOLD the sprint key along with the forward button to be able to sprint, its not a toggle key.

I've just started a new game and it works fine on mine right at the start in the bedroom, so its not a game mechanic where you are prevented from sprinting until the tutorial teaches it to you for example the zombie chase down the corridor.

Hey, I appreciate the reply. I just retried to make sure I didn't have anything doubled binded and I didn't. The issue also occurs on controller. I recently played definitive island and riptide perfectly fine, super disappointed it seems like I won't be able to play this.

Bumping it because I have the same problem.
And I have a question, isnt definitive edition this same game but with improved engine and graphics? If it is, why are you playing also this one? Just asking for if I find interesting to do also both. Thank you in advance.

I've already played Definitive and yes, it's basically just a superior, improved version. The reason I was playing this was because I wanted to 100% the series, earning all achievements.

Unfortunately, there is no fix for the sprint glitch that I found. I tried every available fix I could find online, it seems to only affect a small minority of people, this issue isn't present in definitive. I did notice sprint would sometimes work in certain areas and be almost completely broken in some, like the Jungle for me.

For me is like, press shift, does a small try to sprint but doesnt work, try, try, try ,try, try, now sprints. And this all the time.

Just fixed it activating vsync, I was at 200-300 fps and now im at 120, the sprint works fine now!
Added VSync() at the end of the file "Video.scr" that you can find at "Documents/DeadIsland/out"
Captain Useless Jun 30, 2024 @ 11:04am
that worked for me. video.scr was under documents/deadisland/out/settings, and I had to rename video.scr to video.txt, edit it, and then rename it to video.scr when i was done. I also saw that you need to set video.scr to read only under properties to keep it from undoing your changes. I can now sprint happily

Sprint is ... kind of stupid in this game.

you tap sprint (default Shift) ONCE while moving forward and it continues to sprint and drain your stamina.

if you HOLD shift you immediately stop sprinting.

its counter intuitive, but once you figure that out its not so bad.

I know how to fix this :

Uninstall the game
Remove it from library

AND BUY DYING LIGHT 1 (aka the best zombie game ever) I hope i helped you.

Hey i believe i found a fix for the Sprint Bug, Cap your FPS to 100 in Nvidia Control panel or in the AMD Adrenalin Software and the sprint bug should be gone, works for me, lemme know if it works for you! cheers!
