both are good in their own ways
What's the question anyway? On 360 I used Xian as my character. But for PC I'm using Sam B right now. Is the question "which is better"? If so, then it depends on what weapon type you favor more. Is it "which looks better"? In that case it depends on your preference. Is it "which is female"? If that's the case... do you need your eyes checked? :steamfacepalm:

If the question is which one has more to do with the overall storyline of Dead Island, so far I'd say Xian.

I played SamB the first time through and now completing Riptide. When I finish Riptide, I'm thinking about starting Dead Island over again with Xian.

I heard she is hard early on until you get a long weapon for her.

Finished Riptide and started Dead Island again.

I'm playing Xian and she seems good early on. Maybe because I came from a harder game?

Her stamina is great and her kicks seem very long. When they are on the ground, I can kick them even when I am not at their feet. Maybe it's a glitch or something.

i thought I had a glitch with SamB because I took alot of damage through out the whole game.

Edit...

Xian was good using junk weapons early on, like paddles or pipes. Knives and blade weapons got ate up too quick.

The game level jumped on me and now the weapons suck. Using any good blade weapon needs to be repaired way too much. I upgraded them and they still fall apart.

Oh well, that was short lived....heh

yeah, most blades do have lower durability. WHich they make up for with higher damage (usually). That, and the potential to one shot most foes even with crap damage. Plus you can put some nifty mods on blades such as Venom. In my original playthrough of Dead Island I used Xian. And I ended up carrying one or two bludgening weapons, three blade weapons, a gun, and a grenade. Then using the curb stomp finisher regularly to conserve durability of weapons whenever possible.

I started over and it level jumped again, but this time I know why.

Also I was able to collect a bunch of weapons my level after the jump. Nothing special, but at least I have a dozen weapons to burn through.

I don't know how to feel about Xian. I have to pull my self back down, knowing I am starting over with a different character. No health or regen makes a total different game.

It's great when you get those good hits, but fall back on stamina to run when things go bad.

What happens later on when you just run into more trouble...lol

I choose XIAN but the thing is she is too short on stamina compared to Sam B, when I completed this game, I will choose Sam B

Xian regenerates stamina WAY faster than Sam B. On kills she gets some percentage, plus another skill that boosts the stamina reg rate. Xian is very fragile though.

She is too fragile already Xian, many times when she get surrounded by zombies she dies too easily compare to Sam B

Xian! Her only weakness is extremely vulnerable to damage, EXTREMELY. She can take almost no damage before dying. That said, playing with a SAM B who is doing quite well, himself, I can safely say Xian is destroying. Early on she is alright, not bad, but durability can be kinda annoying. As she starts getting more skills she can get to the point where she is constantly 1-2 shotting enemies with decent weapons/upgrades/mods and skill loadout. Eventually you can get to the point where you can Fury (get tanky in Fury, too with the skill) and just wipe out 2-3 specials and an army of normal zombies in one go. With the right spec you can usually recharge fury in 3-4 sharp weapon kills meaning almost constant fury up time, not that you even need it to destroy. Durability hasn't been an issue for me since maybe level 25+ or so with decent long weapons and upgrades/mods (upgrades help durability a lot). If you can kill them with a few hits durability last a while and doesn't end up that expensive for how much money you make in the game. I have found myself using only one weapon and not needing repairs all that often for the last 10+ levels tho I am sure some weapons will be more troublesome with repairs (Scythes, for isntance). If not for her health vulnerability I think her being the "best character" would be uncontested.
