I can't see you own the game on your Steam account, though you may own it on other platform, therefore I can't see how many hours you have played. I assume it's only 20-40~.
But however, the weapons you find in the beginning of the game will have extremely low durability and break pretty quickly, as you level up your survivor you'll find so many tough weapons you'll have your inventory literally clogged up before you break these weapons, you'll even be selling your good weapons.
So what I recommend you is just play the game as it was intended and enjoy it, and don't worry about the durability.
As of gold weapons that have hundreds of durability and 6 repairs, although these weapons are rare you shouldn't worry about having your weapons losing durability/repairs and becoming useless. I've made a guide about how to refurbish weapons and legitimately restore its repairs/durability easily, feel free to check it out.
Alert: Cheat preachers are incoming to ragecry on this post, take shelters!
Some people enjoy an easy relaxed experience, i sure do when playing a buggy messy game such as DI.
My bad, sorry about that.
Although the main idea of my answer still remains same, except that my guide and repairs on weapons since it's for DL and not DI.
Also I haven't yet encountered in-game bugs in Dead Island, not sure what you meant by that. There's one bug that crashes my game when minimizing but it's rare, never happens if I don't minimize game very often.
Durability and repairing is much easier in DI since you can keep repairing weapons infinitely, there's no such thing as repair limits. I never used mods so I have very limited info regarding modding.
Maybe try this, though repairing weapons is so easy in DI, I wouldn't recommend modding at all, the best is simply use the weapons for your character's specialty with durability + skills with upgraded weapon.
