Also you may find inventory management clunky aswell, but the longer you play, more it goes away and then eventually it gets fine.
I really cant get my head around the movement being so poor.
BUT, I enjoyed the game for all of 3 hours. Not a lot I know - but it really is kinda painful to me after a couple of decades of FPS games playing the right way. No biggie - And I understand why the rest of you guys like it. Just my view is all.
A shame they made the movement so oddly because I think I would have enjoyed playing it a lot more.
Also collecting cash/items off dead zombies steals the control off the player for a second which also feels odd.
Head movement within the vehicles feels wrong.
A few other odd things as well. I do wonder if this game is better played on consoles ........ I expect so. But I do not play FPS on consoles - only 3rd person games.
Again - could have been my new fave game for a few weeks but alas not meant to be!
Came back again, same.
At this point, and I mean it, I totally hated Dead Island, and Dying Light was shining in my mind.
Again so I come back because of friend, was nearly... about to exit and uninstall it permanently so I could go back to Dying Light, that's all what in my mind was. All while forcing myself to play another minute, I was at around 4 hours at that moment.
And then suddenly I got somehow interested in to keep playing more, then as I leveled further, I took some interest in skills, then it caught me addicted, without even realizing, that's how it was in my case.
My favorite character would be Sam B, as it was my first character I started with and due to its great tanky and survival abilities, regenerating HP and huge damage reduction at critical health easily got my interest as it perfectly fits my playstyle of not using medkits and depending on tanking/dodging and regeneration.
And I can say that it gets really better and much more interesting as you level up, Dead Island is almost boring and feels like a chore in the beginning, but it gets truly awesome at mid/later game.
As of consoles, I'm not sure. But I can say that it was definitely worth it.
I will not uninstall it yet, and who knows maybe I might try again - but what I really hope for is that someone mods it to fix the movement! :)
Try to imagine the main character as a puppet on strings and he is moved around by moving his strings. Everything feels slow and wrong and delayed, and clunky.
I wont try the controller with this game as it is a first person, but obviously anyone else having the same feelings can. 1st persons are best enjoyed with keyboard and mouse (for me).
Therefore, I advise testing it out, and seeing if the sluggishness goes away. It did for me, and then I got rid of it through ini edits, in order to go back to my keyboard and mouse setup.
If a controller indeed does remove the sluggishness, post the results here. If it does remove the sluggishness, then at least you know what's causing it, or what's not causing it. In either case, it's a net benefit.
I would be interested to know if someone felt the same as me regards keyboard and mouse and movement and then checked out the game with controller and their thoughts.
I 'might' even find time to try it out myself - but I have a load of 3rd person games on my PS4 to play using controller - and a load more 1st person games on PC. At the moment I cant dedicate my gaming time with Dead Island and go without keyb+mouse.
If the game controls can be improved through the ini files that would be fantastic and I'll google that now.
That said, I'm not saying you should just use a controller. I'm saying, if you test it with a controller, and the sluggishness is gone, then at least you then know what is wrong, and then steps can be taken to rectify the issue.
wouldve felt better if it felt like more DayZ, at least the aim assistance is just absolute ass for general feel for the game.
still top3 best zombie games with games like DayZ because of what it is for its time in history of game development, wouldve definietly seen far greater success if aiming wasnt hardwired for console gamers who suck at aiming with their controllers and if supporting the upgrades of safe zones didnt feel completely freaking pointless to invest your time into.
