the story is very butchered, changed, and not anything like the novel. plus there's 40 hours of unexplored story not shown.

This is the 27th highest rated novel of all time, the anime doesn't even break top 3000.

That's wrong . The true ending of Mitsuki route is a normal end. However you need to acquire Rope first.

There are many differences. The anime adaptation had Takuya always remember his actions from other timelines, whereas in the game he hardly does. The anime highly compresses the richness the game offers: The 2 hour prologue was crammed in a 23 minute episode. The anime does not imply that the characters had any sex. The true endings for each heroines are elaborated in the game.

Many differences--the anime is not canon at many points.The remake removed the sex scenes, but at least the bonding between characters are still more explicit than in the show.
