Play style
Which play style do you choose from the start? (Difficulty level)
I'm a new player and I'm interested in how most people play the game...

I think you mean play style. I go with Normal. While it's true Privateer didn't have aim assist, that games graphics are very much different than this one. For example, it's hard for me to see object far away that I can shoot at and possibly destroy. So it's good to have the aim assist on.

Plus if you're a new player, Normal just gets you in and once you've played the game for a while, then you could move up to a higher difficulty if you wanted.

Yes, I meant play style. (corrected in the original post)
Thanks for the reply.

I already started with "sim". I think this function to follow enemies automaticaly is very much needed in this game, because the enemies are extremely agile.
But I like to do the aiming for myself...

Yeah some enemies are super agile like> you'd need to run Tracers to hit em easily. I tend to use the auto aim and the pursuit function a lot as i run 6 autocannons and fly mostly with the drift key held down.

I started with old school. But I played Privateer and the Righteous Fire expansion from top to bottom twice after they put it on GOG.
I'm not even exactly "hardcore" (I never play most old and new spacesim on the hardest difficulties), you just get less of a head start, didn't want to use autopursuit anyway and I always play first person.
In general the radar and targeting computer are more than enough to follow targets.

I know I´m late t the party. But I started as a space trucker. mining asterois and doing cargo runs until I amassed enough money to seriously upgrade my ship.
The best way to gain early money is to acquire a mining laser and mine ll the aterois belts in Texas systems (avoid iron ore, too cheap), selling the goodies in Austin Station. Rinse and repeat.
In time, your trigger finger will start to itch and you will want to go to dogfights. Time to change the shio.
