Imperial Criminality-How to lower it outside of Cities
Kay.... So I might have killed several Imperial Tax Collectors in a row cause I'm like a dragon and I like sitting on my horde of pretty shiny coins. As a result of this Any large city I go to they try to immpediantly arrest me.

Previous to this I would always pay the fine at the city... How do you do that once your banned from the city effectively? Just wait waisting supplies? For how long? Or is there somewhere else a criminal like me who wants to make a profit can go to bribe the right officals.

Cause I have nearly like 1000 silver coins. It is a tad dissapointing I cant just like. Shower the city guards with coins to let me pass unmolested. I just didnt pay the tax collectors cause you know... their annoying thugs who randomly pop up.

Before you get onto the Most wanted list, there are ways to reduce criminality through paying for your crimes at the authorities, or leveraging your guild contacts but those can only be accessed from within the major settlements.
There is a way to reduce it even from outside but only once (!) in Auguros workcamp through the corrupt overseer in change.. Good luck!

So if you attacked tax collectors a bunch of times (1 time in my case and i was banned right away, maybe my deals with Wraiths influenced that??), you aren't supposed to visit the cities ever again, except if you go to Auguros workcamp?...
LordBlade May 29, 2022 @ 7:18pm
That seems like a terrible design. So if you did that, you're basically screwed for the rest of the game?
Gekker May 29, 2022 @ 8:32pm
i have no idea, i hope it decreases over time, but i can't track it, i can't find a stat about my "criminality" anywhere. So far about 50 days have passed and i still can't visit big imperial cities, like Deven or Tor zag

You need to jump way more than one Tax-Collector to get permanently banned from a city. But yeah, once you're public enemy no.1 there is no turning back.

i'm probably not that "far" into "criminality", to encounter such an irreversible state - anyway, the guy in Auguros workcamp helped me, i can visit cities again

Actually no. It is called consequences for your actions.
If you keep killing other merchants comitati, and killing tax collectors etc regularly, you cannot expect to just waltz in any time you feel you need to reduce your criminality. At that time you are already a well known leader of a bandit/robber band(in this case comitatus) whom most would want to hunt down. And if you would try to enter a town they would most likely think you are coming to loot, raid, etc.
So it is completely normal to cut off a permanent bandit from obtaining resources from civilized places. (It is why most bandits used to have secret informants or smugglers to get them what they needed.)

Not to mention it would be game breaking if you could get yourself rid of all the crimes you did via a bit of coin every time you feel like it. Because it would probably seriously tip off the balance of the game regarding money.

^ agreed, consequences is a good thing, it should be like that.
but it was weird to me that suddenly i was hunted and not allowed into cities after killing 1 tax collector. I haven't seen any mention of such consequence even after killing said collectors. (Maybe i skipped the text about this though.) Also i didn't find where to find my criminality, and what actions are forbidden - i just go to "authorities" from time to time, and see that i have to pay fines, and have no idea for what actions.

All criminality gains are logged, at least those that i know of. The more common ways are dealing on black markets and killing tax collectors. Although some Companion stories give you some criminal rep.

I'm all for consequences. And don't think you should be able to just waltz into town after such things.

Just it sounds like once you've done that, outside of one event, there's no way to recover from it. And THAT is a problem for me. There should be a way to slowly fix the situation. It should be hard, and a lot of work. But simply locking you out of cities permanently seems like too much.
darion-neclador Jun 2, 2022 @ 11:54pm
Again no, you need to do multiple crimes to get permanently banned. The op was clearly not paying attention as Criminality Gains are all printed out in the Story Book.

Just to confirm what Gekker suggested already. There is a one-time option to decrease your criminality in Auguros Work Camp for exactly that reason: serve as a (first&final) warning that the vagrus needs to manage their criminality.
So once they face the issue for the first time, they have a way to come back but after that, they need to be mindful of their actions. Hope this helps. Cheers

So since I broke someone out of the work camp years ago, he won’t talk to me. Is there a way to fix that? Am I really now unable to complete this game after 130 hours because I was unwilling to pay 250 silver every time I use a road?

I am sure there is atleast one bug with ciminality.

I am somehow deemed criminal to the extent of not being allowed in cities anymore, without attacking any of the "imperial taxation patrols" even ONCE!

I went to the place mentioned to reduce the rating, did some other stuff, due to having to kill some time (2 weeks) before the "reduction" is said to have effect, and am still prosecuted...

I never got caught for having contraband, always paid the "extra" tax when exiting cities (which is said to reduce criminality rating), even though i have no idea what I might have done...

I think I gotta trash this game until the criminality system is reasonable, unless I figure out a way to "finish" a run in 1 year...
